Is there a way to put a phone setting as a shortcut on the homepage of an android phone?

The Samsung Galaxy On5 does not have auto brightness when going outdoors. But it does have an "outdoors" option, which when enabled, brightens the screen for 15 minutes. I would like to put that setting on the homepage so I can enable "outdoors" mode with a single tap.

    Anyway to do this?

I seem to remember HTC phones are quite good for creating shortcuts on your homepage. Not sure about Samsung.

Try a long press on the home screen and pick widgets and scroll through to see if you can create any shortcuts to the settings you need.

More likely you will need an app like HD Widgets which allows you to create custom homepages and widgets to link to shortcuts etc. I use it myself for a custom screen timeout setting, displaying internal storage space..

Unfortunately, there is no option to create shortcuts in the On5's "Widgets" feature, that I can find. It appears that one can only pick a widget for an app that is installed.

I'll investigate HD Widgets and see if it can put the "Outdoors" option on the home screen.

    Thanks for the tip!

Nova launcher can do this as well.

Will check that one out if HD Widgets can't do it.
    Thanks!

Nova launcher is great, but takes things to the next level by replacing your default launcher ie everything you see on your homepage and how all the buttons work.

So be prepared for having a different appearance and function on your phone. You may find it takes a while to setup/configure exactly how you want it.

Which is half the reason people use it. :D:p

There's an app in the Play Store called AnyCut which can be used to create direct shortcuts to various functions and activities. May be worth a shot.

After checking out Nova Launcher, I see what you mean. I don't want to replace the default home screens on my and especially not on my wife's phone. She's just learning how to use her phone and would be totally confused with a change.

Too bad HD Widgets doesn't have a free trial so I can see if it can do what I want. I sent an email yesterday to HD Widgets asking if it can put the On5's "outdoor" mode as a widget on the home screen and will see if they will respond.

    Thanks.

Installed AnyCut (free) but it only offers 3 options:

    1. Direct call
    2. Direct text message
    3. Activity

Tapping Activity just brings up a blank black screen saying "Choose an activity". Nothing listed to choose.
I got an ad saying memory was full and looking like it was trying to sell a cleaner. I got a similar ad when I had installed "Advanced Task Killer". That was really bad since it popped up that ad even when in different apps. Uninstalled "Advanced Task Killer" and the pop up ads went away. Appears that "AnyCut" might be working in a similar way so I uninstalled it.

    Thanks for the suggestion though.

I'm going to pass on ActivityLauncher. Description doesn't seem to do what I want plus one user review says:

"Great Very useful appp to access apps that are still in development, are not accessable in your country or just to learn about your phone. Warning! This app could be a security flaw on some phones, because you can access surten settings without needing to enter code/gesture/pin."

Thanks for trying to help. I really appreciate it.

Take a look at this screen shot Mike. This displays what brightness options are available in HD Widgets:

    https://app.box.com/s/eyajoocklnrfvz617p7xscvmuc6eahcp

When you create a switch it becomes a widget you can press and toggle through all the available options on that switch. Look at the option for setting multiple brightness levels, I would have thought this would probably work for you.

You never know, Just because your phone does not have an auto brightness setting that it would not work through this app?

Curious: I played with it a few years ago and there was a huge range of activities I could choose (and no ads I recall). Maybe root makes a difference to it, or maybe things just changed inbetween.

Have not received a reply to the email that I sent to HD Widgets. Will hold off until I receive a reply.
    Thanks.
