    Hi.
I have a really anoying issue.
When the screen is off and the recharging cable is not connected, the phone is making a ticking sound about once per second.
As soon as I connect the phone to the recharging cable or if I press the power-button to turn the screen on, the ticking disappears.

The ticking comes from the vibrator and sounds like an old clock.

I want to get rid of this problem sinces the phone now is useless as an alarm clock when making noise all night. I've tried to Google this problem but without result.
    HELP ME! I'M DESPERATE!

I've got an HTC Desire with the original Android-version 2.2.

Check to see if any recent app may be causing the issue.

    I suppose it's possible it's a faulty vibrate motor.

Try doing a battery pull and see if that solves it.

If not, then maybe a factory reset is in order.

Failing any of that, I'd be tempted to send it in for repair.

Yeah, I guess you're right, Howard.
I am just so surprised that I'm alone with this problem.
Maybe the factory reset is good for many reasons after a year.

Might be the battery breaking down, pull it out and stick it to your ear to see if it's the battery itself making a noise. And yes they can and do break down and make a ticking noise, but not necessarily your problem, but will do no harm in checking.

If it was the battery it would explain why it's extremely hot while recharging now.

I did the hard reset but it cannot resolve my problem since the phone also ticks while loading when it's turned completely off.

No, it's not the battery. I removed it after turning the phone off and still got a few ticks from the phone - nothing from the battery.

    Back to square one.

The warranty is probably overdue since the phone is 15 months old. :(

    Edit:
No, the factory warranty is valid. I'll have to send it for repair.

Sorry to hear that, but hopefully a repair will sort it for you.

So, your phone still ticks even with no battery in it? do you shake it to make it tick, cos if you are, the ticking noise is something to do with the camera, and that's normal.
If you shake or wiggle the phone it will rattle a bit.

No. It just ticks 1 or 2 times, without me touching it. Probably until the last Voltage disappears. Shaking it does nothing.

Very weird indeed, hope you get it fixed soon. Let us know what it is if you find out. Good luck.

It was just the start of the end. Now the phone is unusable.

It is as if I was holding down the volume-down-button all the time, and the menu-button most of the time.

    Hi guys.
Thanks for all the suggestions. This was the result:

Sent the phone for repair. They claimed it had been damaged from fluids, therefore warranty void. The phone is discarded.

If this had anything to do with my problems, I don't know. But I KNOW for sure that it has never been wet, so it must have been as for so many others, that I had it in my pocket on a hot day

Bought a new HTC Sensation in hope of more than 1 year until it breaks down. The hardware on the Samsung Galaxy S II is far superior, but the software on the HTC phones are sooooooooooo much better.
