My battery was at 100% at midnight last night. Set the alarm for 5AM (ugh), went to sleep. Woke up at 6:19, phone was sitting there, off . It would not come on until I did a battery pull. Battery was at ~70% when it booted. Now...as other have stated, my camera is fine. Any correlation? Anyone else have a dead phone this morning (tuesday)? -Matt
I turned my phone off last night because I don't use it for my alarm but I did not have to pull the battery to get it to come back on.
mine wasn't off but was acting strangely. the wifi was turned on and it would not go into portrait mode for a while. this is the first time anything like that has happened so it might be related. i wish there was a way to see what version of software we have running and when the last update was.
I just noticed about 5 minutes ago that mine was off. I left the house at 6:45 and it was ON, and between the time that I left the house and got to work (7:00) the phone had turned off. It would not come back on without a battery removal as well.
Doesn't the Droid have .... Menu Settings About Phone ??????????????? If it does, or something like that, the information you want will be listed there.
version is the same, it's not incrementing. If you had a droid, you should be able to check that, huh?
WHen my phone freaks out like this, I have always been able to trace it back to an installed (but not running??) app from the Market. Read the permissions you give each app carefully, since there is no way to debug or determine who is causing the problem later on when it happens. Someone tell me why a note application needs any permissions beyond the SD card? IMHO all apps are suspect until proven otherwise, and if my phone has an issue I delete all newly installed apps, reboot, and see if problem goes away. So far it always has. Installed any power management apps? Check your sleep settings to see if your screen is set to "Never Time Out"? (This one happened to me).
My Droid was off this morning too, and my camera is in focus now. I put my Droid on the multimedia charging dock last night and when I woke up at 5am, it was off. I was a bit surprised. I pulled it off, tried to turn it on and it wouldn't go, so I pulled the battery and all is good now.
It must have to do with an update since it is happening to so many all on one day. My phone was dead this morn when I awoke. Charger light wouldn't even come on when plugged in. After reading this I pulled the battery out and put back in, now my phone is awake. The battery is almost dead even though it was on the charger all night last night. This just saved me a trip to the Verizon store. I'm so glad I checked here, first!
My phone wasn't dead this morning. If it was I'd still be asleep and probably fired from work. I checked my Up Time on the phone and it's been running for 15 hours, since the last time I restarted because I'm still in the habit of doing so from my Storm. DAMN YOU STORM! Anyway, camera fixed and all.
WEIRD!!!!! my camera works fine. almost to fine to the point where i think if they did fix it last night (im thinking they did because my alarm didnt go off... ) but my camera works so good that idk if it ever really finds focus or it just said it did... you get what im saying? like i could spin my camera around and it would say it got a lock... wtf lol. still doesnt take the pictures i would like to see out of a 5 mega pixel camera. i think my dare did a better job but the video is outstanding! they still have their work cut out for them
I charged mine last night, left the screen set to never timeout, and woke up to a turned off (not that way) phone this morning too. It also wouldn't power back on, i tried continuously pressing the button - flipping the keyboard, etc. for about a minute to no avail. It only powered up again after I plugged the charger in. It's weird that people had the exact same experience, all this morning too.
Did anyone get updated automatically without complaining about the camera? Wondering if I should stay up tonight and watch it update.
Mine was weird last night. I had it plugged in charging and turned it off but it came right back on. Turned it off and right back on again. 4 times this happened and then I just gave up-----but, this morning when I woke up I went to look up the new Redbox movies and the browser froze on it and would not reset until I did a battery pull.
I never complained to VZW about the camera, so they would have no way to know that I was upset about it.
My phone wasn't off this morning, but I noticed last night my Speech recognition software wastn't working. Before I went to sleep I did a reboot and it was working again. I noticed my mic wasn't working in speakerphone mode either. Maybe the update could've happened last night to fix some of these issues, and mine didn't shut off since I had already rebooted it? Edit: I just decided to try my camera right now, and everything is in focus the first time now. Woot!
I checked my uptime, too. There's also a log file I was able to decypher a few things, watchdog reset, but may not be related. I also searched for files 1 day old or newer, and nothing interesting came up.
There was NO silent OTA, it is a bug in the cameras driver's auto focus routine which uses timestamps. Dan Morrill (sp?) from Google confirmed this. If you need more proof then just set your date back a few days and you will see the autofocus stops working again, just like before.
I had my phone to Airplane mode last night, because I listen to podcasts when going to sleep. When I turned it off Airplane mode, the phone rebooted about 15mins later? There must have been an update from Moto. with out changing the 2.0 Os if no one is seeing a number upgrade on android.
Based on the timestamps on the file system, I also have a hard time believing an OTA. Is this maybe not a bug, but today might have been the original planned release of the device?
Mine never rebooted. This is the first I heard about a "silent update," any links on such info? EDIT: Google: http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/17/motorola-droid-camera-autofocus-fixed-in-secrecy/
Yep camera is working top notch now. Stoked to see Verizon/Motorola being so responsive to the problem! Course over on Howard Forums people are saying it could have been something to do with the date and not a silent push.
