Help Pictures too large for Handcent?

Trying to send a picture taken with the camera via Handcent and always says it is too large - it will "resize" it and retry but it never goes thru. I increased the MMS size to max (1 M) but they still are not able to be sent. I then send them with the native messages app (that came loaded on the phone) and they will make it. Any trick I am missing? or other settings I need to change? I hope so b/c I think Handcent is great otherwise really like the bubbles. (I also tried it w/ Chomp and it did not work either).

Mine does that too...it always goes through the second time, but it's still pretty annoying.
