Help Ping apps not working

Greetings!

I recently bought an LG Optimus V, and I have been putting some apps on it. I've tried some different ping programs (such as Ping Free and Net Ping), and they all tell me that pinging is not supported. But if that's the case, how does the Speedtest.net app obtain its ping times? Is pinging disabled on the Optimus V?

My Android OS is 2.2.1. The SW version indicates VM670ZV4.

Have you tried Fing or Network Tools?

Thanks for the quick response. I've just installed Fing. When I tried to ping, it tells me "Ping and traceroute are not available on your platform".

If I'm not mistaken you need to have root access to run pings or tracerts, and I believe the pings are done server side on SpeedTest.net (meaning, those are done on their servers and the app gives you that info).

NoNameFace is right, you need root access to ping.
