Play Music has added offline music support

As far as I know, it's always supported offline music - just hasn't supported SD cards (which aren't officially supported by Android anyway).

You could have it locally cache content by flagging tracks or albums, this is a true offline feature now that will play music files off your sd card that you can add/remove/swap at will easier and faster than play's previous cache feature.

The issue with the first version of this is that offline storage would cache music in a way that it was only playable by the Google Music app.

I saw that when I downloaded the update, and went into settings to select the SD card, but. . .

I've been playing music from my SD card using Google Music almost since the time I got my S4.

I suspect the difference might be that it will automatically download purchased music to the SD card if you ask it to do so.
