Play store Apps when signing in

Every time I log into my gmail it automatically restores apps. Is there any way to manage what I want automatically installed? For instance every time I log in root checker is always installed. But I haven't used that app at all in like 2 years haha.

Any help would be appreciated!

After signing in, head to Settings -> Backup & Reset immediately and you should be able to turn off auto backup and restore.

Although, I'm relatively sure the option is available during initial setup?

You can always just uninstall any apps you no longer need. By default Google will install current (ie installed) apps when you log in with a new device as a convenience; it doesn't install every app you've ever used, just the ones you chose to keep installed on your old phone :)
