Just wondering if anyone has tried the psx4droid emulator on their Optimus V. I know it's not a powerhouse Android phone, but so far I haven't run across any games that don't run perfectly smooth.

Of course I really haven't tried many 3d games since none of the Gameloft ones seems to be compatible, so I have a feeling that the PSX emulators won't run too well.

Looking for feedback before I try it.

The Optimus V is pretty similar to the Intercept as far as processing speed and RAM, psx4droid is most definitely a powerhouse and not at all good for running any 3D game really so I would have to say it probably wouldn't even run on the phone.

I have tried a couple 3D games on my Intercept and it is extremely jumpy, maybe 1-2 fps and some of the objects cannot even be loaded. So that should give you a good idea on how psx games will run on the phone. Hope that helps!

The intercept has a 800mhz single core processor with no gpu amd 256mb or ram. The optmus v has a dual core processor with a 600mhz applications processor and 400mhz modem processor, and also has a 200mhz gpu. The optimus also has 512mb of ram. I still dont think it would run psx emulator but i think the optimus beats the intercept big time in the performence department.

Merlin is correct, while the Optimus and Intercept both have arm 6 processors, clocked at 600 and 800 mhz respectively, the addition of the modem processor at 400 mhz and gpu from the snapdragon processors clocked at 200 mhz make the Optimus a much more powerful phone. However, the psx4droid might require a high end, dual core 1ghz phones to work well. Even if the games do play well on the optimus, PSX games usually have a lot of buttons to press, since the Optimus has few physical buttons it may not work too well with controls, if at all.

Thanks for the replies. Guess I'll stay away from the Playstation emulator.

I always wondered why 600 mhz processors can't emulate PlayStation, the gph wiz has a slower processor and can perfectly, I do know it used to run it like crap but as part of a contest somebody developed an emulator for it that runs at full speed so I would assume it's possible, than again idk if writing it in a language that uses virtual machines like Java might make it slower in comparison to running it a language like c++... Hmmm...

@nightspd there are a few emulators available on android market

i dont get why a device with an 600 to 800mhz processor cant run psx but my pda with a 300 mhz processor can

Give "FPse for android" a try. I'm checking it out right now and it's running quite nicely.

This emulator fits my needs like a glove and I forgot to think that probably 99% of OV owners won't "play" it the way I do.

I have aospCMod 2.3.3 on the phone oc'ed to 806Mhz max. The only game I run is Carnage Heart, a strategy game in which you design the AI routine for several types of robots and send them out to do battle. It's great for me because I'm able to use my old game saves from my PlayStation memory card by using a DexDrive. I also disable sound, which I don't need and it speeds things up a bit.

What I'm trying to say is that the games will probably lag to some degree and how much you can endure will depend on each of you.
