Hi all, I have a Evo 4g that was running gingerbread and followed the instructions on the revolutionary website on how to root it. But something has gone wrong and I received the red triangle with the exclamation mark in it when I try to put it in recovery. Also when i go to reboot my phone it won't go past the Evo 4g white loading screen. Please help! I really need to get my phone back in working order.

    welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
do you have s-off? pull the battery out and press and hold power+vol down. what does it say at the top? it should say s-off or s-on. once we know that then we can proceed.

    Do you have S-OFF?

Either way, rerun revolutionary. Sometimes it doesn't put CWM on there the first time and you have to try it again.

the problem is that the phone will not boot up. so can't rerun revolutionary. if it is s-off then a recovery is all that is needed.

edit: op do you have a card reader?

    Hi all,

First off thanks for the welcome and the prompt responses. The S is off in the Hboot screen and when I reboot my phone it gets stuck at the first Evo 4g white loading screen. I've read other threads and it says to do something with the root directory but since I cant get past the loading screen my computer doesn't recognize my device. And what is a card reader?

    The Hboot screen read:

    Supersonic EVT3 SHIP S-OFF
    HBOOT-6.16.1002
    Microp-041f
    Radio-2.15.00.0808
    Mar 8 2011

Also when its asks if I want to update it says update fail

A card reader allows your computer to read your SD card so that you can put files (in this case a recovery) straight onto it without the phone working.

If not, another phone that uses a microSD card would work just fine.

Root for HTC Evo 4G Gingerbread is HERE! | HTC Evo 4G Hacks!

I followed the steps in this link above, sorry I'm not to sure what file I used. But when it came down to the step of updating in HBoot the [2] Radio_V2 didn't update and [12] Boot Loader didn't update. Does that make sense? I'll do my best to supply to supply the information that's needed.

Can the card reader be a fix-all? I did some research and their fairly cheap and if I could use that to recover my phone I'd love to give that a try. And this might sound dumb, but I still would like to get my phone rooted just as long as It's in working order . Thanks to everyone who's helping me with this.

For your recovery I would use amon ra 2.3 and stay away from anything else. It's the best recovery available.

If you have s-off you really only need to load a recovery. So anything you can do to get the file on your SD card will work. There's a thread on xda that will explain how to load the recovery. Look for "the bootloader way" I'm on my phone so I can't link it.

i just checked out that link and i do not see anything about radios. i hope you have not messed with them yet.

if you have hboot. all you need to do is follow the directions in the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html. go to the switching recovery section and follow directions there. the only difference for you is that you need to get amon ra 2.3 file on to your card some how. a card reader is the best way to do it unlees you know someone who has an evo.

Should I take the PC36DIAG file that's already on my SD card? I just got the card reader and am in the process of fixing my phone. Ocnbrze I haven't messed around with any of that radio stuff at all.

I think what you are wanting to do is this from Ocn's rooting gingerbread sticky, under changing recoveries.

Here is the link to the file. PC36IMG_RA_2.3.zip

"speaking of recovery i would really recommend that everyone switch to amon ra 2.3. it is a much better recovery then clockwork mod. you can get the recovery here:pC36IMG RA 2.3.zip
    here are the instructions:
    1.download the file.
2.rename the file by erasing the "_RA_2.3" part of the name so that it is only named PC36IMG. make sure not to add ".zip" to the name as windows hides extensions.
3.transfer the file to the root (that means not in any folder) of the sd card.
4.power off (you most likely need to uncheck fastboot. settings/apps/uncheck fastboot.) then press and hold power+vol down.
5.hboot should see the file and select yes to update.
6.select no to reboot because we want to go into recovery and make a nandroid backup.
    7.select recovery.
8.select backup and restore and select backup
    9. select the first three and wimax. the other partitions do not need to be backed up. always keep one nandroid backup with wimax keys backed up on your computer.
    10.now you can reboot.
11.using a file manager of some sort or even through your computer via usb, you should rename or delete the PC36IMG file on your card. otherwise you will be asked to update every time you go to the hboot screen. you do not need that file any more."

you can get older versions of clockwork mods and amon ra here:Free File Hosting Made Simple - MediaFire.
also there is a new recovery from teamwin :TeamWin Recovery Project (twrp) v1.0.3"

You aren't going to need to make a recovery at this point but if you did want to, uncheck everything and just check wimax, that is good to have on pc in case yo need it some time.

Thanks for the advice, but which file is my root when I'm looking through my SD card? I just looked in the file and I can't seem to find it.

root is not a file or folder. it is just your card. just place the file on your card. do not put it in a folder.

using a card reader, right? drop that file renamed correctly, right on where it says the drive it is showing up as.

You will see it show up on card not in a folder.

I realy recomend you read this compleetley http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html

I would not be messing with radios untill u have s off and a recovery and a nandroid of your wimax keys at least.
