    Hi,

I have the latest version of Handcent on my SPrint Hero and suddenly over the past two weeks, I am getting the annoying pop-up message ven though I have disabled this feature. I am not talking about ndual notifications from the stock SMS app and Handcent, but merely Hadcent itslef. I unfortunately took the liberty and did a hard reset yesterday, reinstalled Hahndcent from the Market, checked the settings and, NO GO. I really don't know what else to try . If anyone out htere can suggest a fix, please post ASAP.

    Thanks !

    Howie

I don't understand what you are experiencing.

Are you trying to say that Handcent is telling you that you have 2 new messages when in fact you've only recieved one?

Are you talking about the pop up notification that comes on the screen when its alseep?? If so all you have to do is go in settings and turn off notifications.

    I think he means ...

When a message come in, he gets a notification and a pop up, even though the pop up is turned off in Handcent settings.

What I mean is that I have disabled the Pop-Up setting in Handcent, I of course disabled the notifications in the stock SMS app. But no matter what I do, I am getting the Handcent pop-up every time a message comes in . It is eating my battery and driving me mad. Yes, I tripple-checked the settings and the only Notifications I have enabled is to vibrate and play an alert. All Pop-up settings are disabled. I have already hard-reset it twice in two days and still nothing. Please HELP ! I have no "hacked" apps installed and only lik 5 free apps installed, none of which have to do with messaging.

    Thanks

Treble check it is the popup from handcent.

My theory is its a popup from elsewhere, possibly popup sms app? It would be very easy to mistake these, and could explain why nothing you are doing is removing the popup from appearing

Not knowing why you are using handcent, but if Handcent continues to act up you could always try ChompSMS.

    *just an idea*

Handcent worked like a champ and improved battery life a bit , prior to the ROM update. Something must be weird with the ROM update on my , now 3rd Hero. Like I said, I'm a "Techie" and have verified all of the settings, etc. I just cant seem to get rid of it. I did try the Pop-Up app mentioned in this thread an it did not resolve the issue. Open to move ssuggestions.

Pre update I tried both Chomp and Handcent. I could NEVER get Handcent to work right on my Hero so I tossed it to the curb pretty quick. Best of luck!

Regardless of which you decide on, it's important to note that Handcent AND Chomp both pull their information from the native messaging app.

I know that Handcent and Chomp still use the default engine, but Handcent is way better than the stock app, which I am using now. I really want to get this issue resolved or at least find other people who may be experiencing the same issue. I posted this on the Handcent forum and today someone else responded that the have the same issue.

Although I thought the ROM update made my phone better and improved the battery life a bit, I am now noticing the opposite - along with this issue , the damn vibration when you type a phone number is a new BUG that came with the ROM update and it too is driving me nutz ! HELP !!! I really need to get back to Handcent as it nicely re sizes images for MMS, which the stock app does not do.

I am at a loss on this one as I've turned it off on my phone and had someone send me a message and it does not popup. turn it back on and it behaves normally. best of luck.. if Handcent finds a fix please post it here for others this may happen to.

Well, as I said I did a full rest and installed only Handcent and the pop-ups still came no matter what. Last night I saw they updated it again and I really dislike the limited functionality of the stock SMS app. So, I installed the newest version and it appears to be working fine- no pop-ups. However, even though I have the "screen on" disabled, the screen still lights when I receive a message. As I stated on the Handcent forums, the one thing i did have installed before my reset was the Text To Speech add-in, whcin I did play with using Handcent. I have now removed that app, so maybe it was some incompatibility with that app? I just hope it says working ! And I hope I can figure out why the screen keeps coming on. Im open to suggestions.
