Root Please help with root/rom, have s-off (was- Accidentally updated after root!?)

First boot on Viper will take a while. Not uncommon for many of the custom roms - the bootup actually is doing things - just like a Mac or PC after an update install.

I flash around, but ultimayely end up back on Vipr in the end. It just works, and battery life is good for me. I can't get used to the JB update and keep coming back to ICS.

I noticed a VERY long load for the first load of bad seed Rom. I remember much the same with viper, and with meanrom, almost thought it was a bootloop with bad seed though.

Finally got around to flashing all three but I'm getting boolooping? Continuous restarts I think. I read to try Flash Image GUI but I'm not sure how to install it when the phone keeps rebooting. It's been bootlooping for about 15 mins so far

I've noticed many seem to have issues with the Flash Image GUI. But none seem to have issues flashing kernels via fastboot. Give that a shot. It looks complicated but it's really not. Just a minor inconvenience.

Well, I got flashimage on my sd card and tried to install it using twrp but I can't find it on the card. Also, if I do install it, will it get the bootlooping to stop? That's all I really care about.

you can't flash the boot.img it has to be done via fastboot command

Man I went through hell trying to get this to work on a Mac...then a Vista Machine, then a Windows 7 32. But I don't really understand I did everything but what do I do to get the bootlooping to go away?

what rom did you flash when the bootloop happened? what rom were you on before hand?

do you have a nandroid backup?

I was using MeanBean and was attempting Viper4G. Yep, I have a Backup. All boot.img did was now it says Viper4G when bootlooping.

not sure why you are having bootloops. you should be fine with the kernel from meanbean to viper 4g.

the flashimage gui is an app you run on your phone. you will need a file manager to install the apk. it is used to flash boot.img which is where the kernel lies. but you will need a booted up phone to use it.

do you have the android folder still setup? it has adb.exe and fastboot.exe?
you can always fastboot command the boot.img from the viper rom. use the guide i linked you to earlier.

this is what i would do:
1. wipe dalvik cache, cache, factory reset, and system
2. pull the boot.img from the viper rom
3. re-flash viper rom
4. boot into fastboot from the bootloader
5. connect the phone to the pc via usb
6. open the command window from the android folder
7. type in
[HIGH]fastboot flash boot boot.img[/HIGH]
8. reboot

Yeah, I uploaded Viper's boot.img. Right now I'm restoring my nan backup. I'll try again whgen I have more time. I had so much to do today! Grrrrr!

MeanBean is Jellybean, Viper4G is ICS, so getting the boot image changed is necessary.

Viper4G was supposed to handle the boot image install for s-on for you.

Could have been a bad flash or a bad download (leading to a bad flash) of the rom.

Quick question....how long should the nandroid backup take? The phone has said "Android is upgrading... Starting apps." with the loopty-loop for like 45 mins.

is that on the start up screen? it will depend on how many apps you have.......but that is kind of long.

....actually I was wrong, my bad. At boot up it's stuck on "Starting Apps".

After it getting stuck the 3rd time I tried the Viper flash. It went through this time without bootloop. I'm setting it up now.

I just flashed viper to my wife's phone last night, and had the same problem, kept getting stuck on the kernel installer, then would go past that and say it would in the kernel during start up. I had to fastboot flash the kernel, then everything was fine. The download was fine, some few handsets seem to have a few issues with this I think.

Heyyyy guys..I'm back! I'm having some more trouble so I figured I'd add it to the thread of troubles. I had to get a replacement phone and it seams that rooting has gotten harder or am I crazy? I unlocked the phone and got recovery but accidentally skipped the dirtyracun step and installed Viper4G. After that install the touch screen doesn't work but I figured it's cuz I didn't dirtyracun. I'm trying to make sense of it but I'm so busy at work and I have no clue how to use ubuntu and I gotta switch back to windows to get to work. Jeez!
