When you divert another mobile or land line phone number to your phone does it come up with a symbol or something indicating that the incoming call is from a diverted number rather than a direct call to your handset?

If not is there anyway to make it?

My boss has an iphone 3G and when he diverts the work number to his phone there is nothing to indicate the incoming call is diverted which is crap.. My Mothers old school Nokia is capable of this for god sake

Due to carrier handset restrictions im having to decide between a Desire HD and

  2. I believe that depends on the network, not the phone.

I think sitlet is right. This type of feature would have to be supported by both the carrier(s) and handset.

You could do something similar with Google Voice though. Setup a Google Voice number that forwards to your cell phone, and forward your work number to the Google Voice number. Then setup Google Voice to screen calls, allowing you to answer, yet still be prompted by Google Voice to answer the call or let it go to (Google Voice) voice mail. If you let it go to voicemail, you can actually listen in on the caller leaving the message, and I believe you can pickup the call if you decide to do so while they are leaving the message.

No its not i've done some testing. I put my boss's sim card (the one that shows the number of the diverted call coming in but doesn't indicate the call is diverted on his iphone 3g) into my Nokia n95 8gb and rang the work number, it came up on my Nokia with the phone number and a symbol showing it was a diverted call.

Therefor it is handset dependent and not network.

Surely Android is capable of this.. Is there a setting to change or an app to do it?

It could be both actually as you haven't tested to conclusively indicate otherwise.

My boss's sim card is on another network as well and still showed on my phone what his wont, what more proof do you need?

Not that thats the point because neither of those phones are Android OS and all I want to know is if Android can do this..

Hmm interesting, how would the Nokia phone know it's a diverted call?

I'm not aware of any technology that would show the call differently whether it's a direct dial or a forwarding from another line, here in the USA at least.

Can you elaborate more on how this is done and how it's possible from a network and phone perspective?

For example either the phone here in the office (land line) is diverted to my phone (a setting on the cordless land line, not a network divert) or the work mobile is diverted (again under settings on the handset) to my mobile and the good old nokia will show the number of the diverted call coming in with an arrow symbol next the number indicating its a diverted call.

If its a direct call to my phone there is no symbol.

I've been searching this for days now and the only phone I can find that does it is Nokia. But I cant find out how the phone does it either.. :|

I am sure that it is an android or phone issue because i have an old samsung g400 that indicates the diverted calls but when i use the same sim in my ZTE BLADE android 2.1 i see no indication. So? Is there any solution?...

this thread is old.. and the OP has not posted in a while.
I wonder if he ever got that figured out.

My guess.. that the network.. does send out a notice.. to indicate a forwarded call.
I am sure android/phone can see this notice. but is there an app that can notify the user, that is the question.
