Please tell me I'm being stupid

Just got an HTC Sensation and noticed that there is no visual notification when I receive text messages - i.e. if the phone is on standby, the screen doesn't light up to display that I have a new incoming message. Nor is there any kind of flashing light to indicate that a new message has been received - surely there must be a way to amend this via the settings - this is pretty basic functionality.

I can only assume I'm being a bit slow and haven't worked it out yet. So can someone please advise me how to do this?

Cheers.

You're not being silly, the screen doesn't come on when an SMS is received. Or anything for that matter. Only calls

Try pressing menu in your messages app and clicking on settings, notifications then tick receive notification box if you havent done that already

There is a small LED that flashes when you get a text (or should) behind the speaker grill next to the front camera. Admittedly it's not the best. Give GoSMS or Handcent a go

In settings, under display there are an option for setting the notification LED.
It is the same LED that shows the charging state.
Hope it helps, otherwise read the manual...

Coming from and iPhone I really missed this feature, as my phone is always on silent in work I relied on the screen lighting up to alert me of a new text. I downloaded go sms after recommendations on this board, and can say it does all I need. I tried handcent also but prefered go sms, but that I guess is just personal preference as they were both much the same.

This is unbelievably poor.

I've downloaded Handcent but it's far from perfect.

In many respects this is a great handset but how they can get this wrong is beyond me.
