    Hi there,

I have an Acer Iconia A500 and have just loaded several movies/TV series on which I ripped from my DVD collection. They are in an .mp4 shell, encoded with a H.264 codec. I have tried two different resolutions.

I have played them on the standard video player, Mobo, Doubletwist, RealPlayer but each time there is severe pixelation/scratchiness/blurring.

They all played fine with no problems on my PC or on a friend's iPad.

Can anyone advise what the problem may be and how I can resolve it?

    Thanks and best regards

You are still thinking in iPad mode dude... and what app you use to rip it makes a difference as well.

Just rip your DVDs to XviD AVI and see the difference.
MP4 is really optimised for iPads

    cheers :)

Hi guys. Thank you for the replies.

I have tried XVids or AVIs in an XVID codec. I've tried ripping at original resolution or various in-between ones. The original resolutions come out very small and get grainy viewed full screen. Some of the larger resolutions just didn't play at all.

Basically, all the formats I've tried end up looking poor quality, patchy, pixelated.

I am using daniusoft dvd ripper which has been fantastic for getting HD MP4s for home playback...

Any more advice very gratefully accepted!

    Thanks all...

    Hi,

I use handbrake (...coz I am cheap and handbrake is free)
I use the default setting for xvid avi when I rip my dvds.
I use MoboPlayer (installed v7 codecs for software decoding when needed)
It plays perfectly fine on my Iconia A500.

    cheers :)
