So if the 3d is really coming out the 24th it looks like they are just doing that to screw people like me who were planning on switching to sprint for it.

But haven't they extended this offer before?

I really doubt they are going to try to screw over new people like this. I have no factual information to base this on, but that's just bad business. I'd look for a last minute extension to include the E3D date.

Again, not factual information that I can back up: I bet the E3D ran into some sort of delay after they announced the dates to this port in credit program. The PR people or management just haven't noticed the dilemma. Towards the end, people will make some noise on Twitter/FB, or some manager will be looking at the plan and /facepalm or something. Then it'll get extended. That, or they're just not announcing an extension just yet to try to get people to not procrastinate as much and/pr make it seem like a gesture of good will on Sprint's part. And remember, the E3D has no official release date.

That's my take on it, anyways. Won't apply to me, though. I want a new number :(

They have extended it before. Hopefully they will do it again. Wrong forum, btw.

And if there's no solid release date as that date approaches, get something/anything cheap, do the swap to Sprint, and then use the 30-day return guarantee & get the Evo 3D.

Many others have pulled this off, you can chat around in our Sprint forum for advice on that (or maybe somebuddy here knows if I'm telling the truth or talking out of my hat - I think, the truth).

I think you're right - it's just the heat, I needed another nudge - ok, moving this to the Sprint forum. :)

I believe you could: Get the EVO 4G or Nexus S 4G and exchange it for the EVO 3D when it arrives. I would do this on or around the 20th of June, so you have a nice window. Assuming you exchange within 30 days, I dont see why this would be a problem... should still get your port in credit.
    Port In Credit

PS. follow the directions carefully, you only have a 72 hour window to fill out the application online after you port. Also, at the bottom it says you have to buy from Sprint to take advantage of this deal.

So if I get the Nexus S 4G ($200 from Sprint) and then exchange it for the Evo 3D (also $200 supposedly) within 30 days, it shouldn't cost me anything, and they'll let me trade it for a new Evo 3D?

IF I was looking to port in I would do it on the last day.
Get a free or close to free nexus, keep it unopened and return it for an evo a day later.

So if Sprint goes along with the good will shattering decision to launch the Evo 3D the day after the new customer promotion ends, instead of just extending it a little bit would the following be the best idea?

Mid June get some random 200 dollar phone from Sprint, fill out the new customer agreement to get the deal, then bring it back a few days later when the Evo 3D comes out and swap it out at no extra charge?

Also, by having to be done through Sprint, does that mean I have to buy the phone from a Sprint store and I can't just pick up my pre-order at Best Buy?

Thats right! Although, I have heard of some getting charged 30 bucks for restocking fee. not sure about that part.

Edit: hell, you could go do this now, but then you're taking a risk that the EVO 3D does not arrive within 30 days. Thats why I recommend doing it around the 20th, then youll be within port in credit promotion and youll have a 30 day window for the EVO 3D's arrival.

    Port In Credit says:
"This offer is available online, via Telesales and in participating Sprint Stores."

So, to make sure you get the credit, I'd go through Sprint.

also, sprint already extended the offer once, no telling if it will happen again.

Crap, so if I want the credit, I have to cancel my Best Buy pre-order and go pre-order it at Sprint? Just making absolute certain before I run to best buy to cancel my pre-order.

Why cancel the BB preorder? It's just a gift card, and it would make a nice backup if things don't work out at the Sprint store :)

I just did this. Had no idea I had to do it through Sprint. I ported my GF's t-mo number to my account at BB because they gave her an Evo for 50.00 bucks. Guess I'll have to give CS a call and make sure I still get my credit. Otherwise, I'll cancel her line within 30 days.

IMO the port in rebate could end on 23rd because Speint will sell the phone early on the 17th. And have a whole week to get new customers on the Evo 3D. This is just what I'm thinking will happen.

And if it doesn't, you can just buy another phone and trade up when it comes out.

It's possible that the end date is just a formality. The rebates always run from Date A to Date B and pick up again on Date C, C being one day after B (A, B, and C are arbitrary dates for this example) so maybe the port credit will be the same.

Has anyone thought that maybe Sprint doesn't want to further subsidize the 3vo with an additional port in credit? keep in mind that if you switch phones just to get it sprint may just cancel your rebate.

I actually spoke with a rep at my local Morris store about this. I asked him directly if I could port my number from T-mob, get an Evo 4G now and then exchange it after the E3D arrives and still retain the credit. He said yes. The port in credit is not dependant on the purchased handset. He did say there would be a re-stocking credit of $35, but that still puts me ahead $90. He also recommended picking up the phone of my choice only when that store started pre-orders. That way, there would only be two weeks until the phone was released. Basically, he talked me out of bringing my number over today so I could get what I wanted. Good customer service there :)

The end result for Sprint is a net gain of one customer on a contract. That tends to be more valuable over the length of the contract than just the subsidized phone. Or at least that is my understanding of it.

Sprint should really extend this to include the Evo3D...

losing out on $125/customer or gaining ~$2k/customer over two years....hmmm?

I just spoke with someone at Sprint about trying this same thing. The biggest risk is that they may not have any Evo 3Ds in stock until after your 30 day window is up. She said that the first Evo was incredibly popular and people who didn't pre-order were waiting for months .

I asked if it was possible to pre-order the Evo 3D and get a different phone now, but she thought that wasn't allowed.

It has been extended to 7/23/2011

For those of you looking to do something creative to get the credit and get the Evo 3d you no longer have to get creative. Sprint has extended the credit to 7/23/2011
