Possible reason for freeze problems with 720p recording

A friend of mine came to visit today and coincidentlally has a HTC Desire too. We got talking about the phone of course and he complained that his recording in HD 720 p was always plagued by random hacking and freezes. Since i did not have the same problem on my desire when i recorded in 720p,we decided to try and compare phones and see what the problem could be and it may seem that we hit a possible reason.

Firstly, my friend is an 'app whore' , he downloads and installs anything remotely attractive to him just for bragging rights even if he does not use it often. As a result of this, his phone had 27 mb memory left on its internal memory. Mine on the other hand had 68mb . We then uninstalled a barrage of apps and got his phone to 66 mb free internal memory and what do you know? It now records smoothly without a slightest problems.

Could this be the problem? the low internal memory somehow affects the smoothness of recording in HD ?

Or could it be just one of the apps we uninstalled that may have been interfering with the phones recording abilities.

I just felt this theory was worth sharing with you guys.

I personally would say it was the low amount of ram causing the problems.
What class of sd card do you have as there is the possibility of a low class needing more internal memory free than a higher class

Interesting.

I've got 40mb free and suffer some freezing.I just thought it was my memory card but maybe something more in it.Anyone else who doesn't suffer freezing care to comment?

freezing reason
-low memory space
-change your SD card if it is class 2,because HD video support SD card class 4 and class 6. class 2 doesn't support well for HD video. HTC delivered everyone 4GB SD Card class 2 with desire, coz its cheap one in the market.

I got freezing on a fresh wipe, I use apps2sd+ and still have 75mb free, still get freezing if I try 720p. I think its probably more related to SD card, I only use class 2. Will get a class 6 when/if the 32gb ones materialise - right now carrying more of my music with me is higher on my priorities than 720p so ill stick with the large but slow card :p

Obviously the higher class cards give you smoother recording, but the more internal ram you got free enables you to use a lower class as it acts like a cache.
Only thing is it doesn't work so well if your clips are longer ones, as the card acts as a bottleneck & when the ram gets full you get jerkiness back

If you have the money to buy a 32 gig class six card when they come out, I don't suppose you could send a few hundred quid my way in the post? It would, after all, just be small change to you, and I could use the cash! :p
