Anyone brave enough to test my theory with a case mod?
Assuming that is your case your already halfway there...
I don't get it, what did you do to it.
The front fell off.
I dont get it either. See covers off and you did what?
The actual speaker goes in that round part that dips down and is almost totally covered by the back cover. I just photoshopped some holes right over where the speaker is.
I think it would make a big difference.
No its not my case, I just googled Droid X disassembly and found some pics and a video.
Dont you mean the back fell off? I think that little slit corresponds to the little slit that is on the back cover. Whats behind that whole odd shaped area seems to be the speaker but 90% of it is covered (stock) so he is thinking that if you make more openings for sound to escape it will be louder. Which makes sense to me.
Although take what I say with a grain of salt I could be totally wrong.
Ok I get it. So do you own a x? If so are you gonna try it? I see that even withthe back cover on that the speaker only comes through like 1/3
yea I have an X. I love it but the speaker needs to be a little louder.
Will I do it? I don't know, I'd rather you go first. lol
I just thought I'd throw this out there to see if people agree that the cover might be part of the problem. Maybe some gunho rooted type will do it and report back.
I think this might help.
This could definitely be the culprit.
man that had me rollin
Randomly increasing the open area might make it louder but it could also affect the frequency response, loading on the driver, etc. I think you'd also want to make sure that the actual driver extended beyond the area of the existing slot, you could be opening up areas that have nothing to do with the speaker or even essentially be drilling holes in the speaker enclosure.
In other words, it could help but it could also make things worse, perhaps a little more research would be appropriate before actually trying it.

pattherat: I don't know why you're hosting images on a beach capable motorized scooter site but STOP IT and use imgur.com for crying out loud!
seems interesting. Might work.
Smae thing here, so i have removed the image from the post. Fee free to upload the image again but use another site.
Wow sorry about that. I had no idea my site was infected with malware. I've been frantically trying to fix this over the past 8 hours. I think it must have got in from the contact form, which I have now removed. I googled malware infected website and it seems like it is quite the epidemic lately. Again I had no knowledge of this and apologize for any inconvenience. I requested a review from google, hopefuly I removed all the infected pages.
I will repost the pics later on imgur.com?
I just received a new X as a replacement for a defective one.
Here's what seems to have been fixed or is no longer present.. There is no screen flicker. The earpiece is loud and clear. No annoying rattling/buzzing/hating noises. The ringer is loud too.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm, very interesting.
Thursday Poll: Experiencing Volume Issues With Your DROID X? | Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog
I just received my X 2 days ago and the speaker volume seems loud enough, even to the point of being so loud I need to turn it down a few notches. And I always complain about phones that don't have enough volume.
