Possible to customize the 4 buttons at bottom of screen?

Without running a separated launcher, is there any way to "customize" what the 4 buttons at the bottom of the screen are?

For example, instead of "Messaging" I'd like that button to link to "Contacts."

There's a video on YouTube that shows it being done, but it must not be for the current version/software or AT&T version because it doesn't work on mine.''

    Thanks.

Just the three from the left, Search button is permanent. As I mentioned few times before, not sure why AT&T needed to babysit us and stuck us with a 'search' button.

It's not the search button is the HOME key... :) This key on the RIGHT toggles the APP screen vs. HOME screen...

But yes, the other 3 keys are customizable, here is the URL:

To answer your question, open your apps, hit menu, choose 'view type', choose 'customizable grid', then drag/drop the apps you want in the drawer. You can switch the view back after, or leave it that way and customize the app drawer.
