I'm on the edge of picking one of these up in the next couple days. I know about all the kick ass features, so please only post up the things that suck, or piss you off. I don't care how minor it may seem, just post it up.

-Lacking the ability to close an app
    -Google Docs only does read-only
-No arrow keys on the keyboard (though I'm making due with the trackball).

On the whole, though, it's great. And because it's google, you know they're going to be updating things with new innovations and fixes. I had windows mobile and in over a year, not one update, not one. The G1 has an update schedule for tomorrow. And I'm sure more will follow in the coming months.

One thing I forgot to mention in my review: this thing is HEAVY. And not as in "way cool, man".

I agree with punkzanyj's comments too. The missing arrow keys are a pain. The Sidekick didn't have them either but it had that four-way directional button built into the speaker.

This certainly isn't the be-all and end-all of Android phones; at least I hope not. But IMHO none of the problems are dealbreakers; it's a VERY nice piece of equipment.

Just watched an old Zappa video on the phone on YouTube; very cool. (BTW, my friend and ex-Mothers of Invention drummer Jimmy Carl Black is dying of cancer; drop by jimmycarlblack.com and send him good thoughts in his guestbook if you were ever a Mothers fan...)

I agree with Sundog that this is a heavy device, not for the shirt pocket for sure. That and not landscape mode without having to open the keypad are really only the two things that bother me.

I just weighed it on our scale at work and it's 5.6 ounce = 158.757 grams

I think the weight is due to the soft touch of the phone. It even seems a touch heavier as my friends Palm Treo 750

At 6'6" and 220 pounds, my physique is just fine, thanks. You will find that this is a common criticism of this phone.

Agreed, it's definitly mine. This could be a deal breaker for me but it really is a tough call since I think the UI is very good, much better out of the box than I thought and smoother than the videos I've watched. I think Android will only get better too.

I would have liked to see be a lighter device.

I don't like the fact that flash isn't supported. Youtube works, but all of the other video sites, including google video don't work.

    - I wish the screen would flip horizontally when the keyboard is tucked away. you have to flip the keyboard out to view in widescreen.
-the headphone jack gets in the way little bit when you are typing. alittle annoying but you can manage to find a comfortable position for you hands.

I felt that the phone itself feels flimsy. I hope the slide-out keyboard won't break easily!

The battery life sucks something aweful. If your running GPS, wifi, and a few apps, your battery will go from 100% to dead in about 2-3hrs. Unless of course your using it then you got about 1-2hrs.

Edit: All in all though this phone rocks! I'm sure they will come out with an expanded battery just like blackberry. I would take it over an Iphone any day of the week.

Can't agree with you guys there at ALL. In fact, none of the professional reviews (CNet, Engadget, Gizmodo) mentioned the weight being an issue, at least not that I recall.

HOWEVER, I do have to come clean, I'm coming off having a T-Mobile Wing, and regularly carry my PSP with me, so in comparison, the G1 seems very very light. I have to keep checking my pockets to make sure it's still there. But then I was never into the super light, super thin phones. Yeah, you can't put this in a shirt pocket, but I found when I did have a phone that would fit in a shirt pocket (we're talking 2001, the first tiny Nokia) I would forget it was there, lean over, and have it come tumbling out onto the ground. That baby took a beating, though.

Anyway, the weight is all a matter of perspective. I do a lot of walking here in Chicago. Lot of bus and train time, and I almost always have a backpack on, so to me, this thing is light.

every complaint i can think of is only a software issue and so im confident they will be takin care of soon enough. the only none software issue i can think of is poor battery life. even this could be mildy improved though with os updates and as said in sure an extended battery pack will come out.

also i personally feel the weight is just right. its not overly heavy for its size but it doesnt feel too light and flimsy either. i think it feel very well built.

The Engadget review calls it out for being a little heavy but says it's "not a brick", which is true. It just seems too heavy for its size to me, it feels like I'm carrying a rock in my pocket. YMMV.

My one complaint comes from entering contacts. If you open a contact for editing while the screen is vertical and your curser is on a certain entry, like Mobile #, when you flip your screen to Horizontal it movse your curser back to the top of the page and if you're not paying attention you start typing the # in the Name field.

also, for the phone entry on the vertical screen it would be fantastic to be able to have the touch dial-pad pop up so you don't have to flip it open so much.

My only two complaints are the battery life and the non-gmail email interface. Those are both things that could, and hopefully will be, fixed.
I went from a Dash to this so I am extremely satisfied.

The screen has too much blue tint as does the WB on the camera.

    Oh yes, the camera.

The hardware itself is not bad, but the app for it is so barebones as to be laughable. NO adjustments at all??? At least give us white balancing!

Yep.. the arrow thing kinda blows when ur needing to go back and correct something uve mistyped.

Also it feels heavy too! Not overly but I was surprised at how it feels in your palm. I enjoy the weight I think its just about right.

The battery life sucks for me.. 6 hours MAX and its about to die.

And the AIM application blows.. it seems to be full of bugs (I hope they can do something to fix this..)

Overall the best phone I've ever had tho.. its everything awesome about the sidekick slapped inside the iPhone (give or take a few functions)

Camera is horrible. While I'm impressed with the fact that it's over 3 MPs, there are zero functions such as zoom. Furthermore, it's slow!

There is only one flaw to me, and that is the.....
-Design of the hinge and back plate.

The hinge is cool, but it causes squeaks and gaps. The battery cover is also not completely flush, so that when you are texting, you are constantly flapping the back plate as your fingers move. I fixed it by putting a small black vinyl strip to hold it firmly in place. Works like a charm.
