I have had my Droid3 for about 10 days and noticed this odd behavior several times - but, I thought it was a 'user error'. Last night I removed any doubt.

I powered off the phone by bringing up the appropriate menu with the power switch. I put the phone on the desk and watched it completely power off - with the correct messages. About 5 minutes later, the phone powered itself on, by itself - I never touched the phone.

I have made no changes to the system, no 'odd' software loaded. The phone has done this several times.

Any solutions, anyone with this problem, anything worth trying?

    Thanks.

It's funny you mention this. My husband and I both have the D3. Last night we're in bed and we hear "DROID" lol. We both look up and his phone is turning on by itself. Was quite interesting, and I though he was messing with me but he wasn't. His phone powered up by itself!

Mine did it once the night I got it, but it hasn't done it since.

Your phones have become self aware. If you wake up in the night and your phone is standing over you watching you I would return them for a replacement.

It's been said on other forums that it's possible that the shutdown isn't actually completing even though it appears to, and something toward the end of the power off cycle hangs and eventually causes either a kernel panic, or some other trigger that causes the phone to eventually reboot. You could always do a battery pull just to be sure.

Destroying the phone completely also works, unless you have one of those few rare situations that the phone is haunting you, survives the destruction, and then plans on killing you, because...Droid Does.
