I rooted stock Froyo with Z4 root app, I also have Titanium Backup installed with some bloat removed, others frozen.

I'm hearing that I need to be using unrooted Froyo to get the OTA, how do I go about doing this?

A friend helped me make these changes, so I'm not too well versed with these things. Just want to be ready when the OTA drops.

Thanks in advance for the help, Briley.

    Briley, Welcome to the forums!

You can be rooted and still get the OTA. It's the bloat that you removed/froze that is going to cause the problem. Do you remember which bloat apps you removed? Maybe we can get those back onto your phone so you don't have to SBF your phone.

I would guess that you need to SBF back to stock. I don't know much about rooting though

OP did you happen to make a nandroid backup as soon as you rooted using Z4? if so just restore it as long as you made the back up before you froze/removed bloat.

THIS IS WHY WE ALL NEED TO MAKE A STOCK NANDROID ROOTED BACKUP OF EACH NEW ANDROID BUILD :)

    Hmmm...no, I didn't make a backup.:(

Now trying to remember if or what I deleted may be a challenge, but I can tell you what I had frozen: 3G Mobile Hotspot, City ID, Emergency Alert, Media Share, Messaging, My Verizon Mobile, News, News and Weather, Skype, Social Networking, and VZ Navigator. I've restored all of them.

I may just wait to see if I can get the OTA, if not, then SBF will be in order.

    Briley.

You won't be able to get the OTA. It will check to make sure all the system files are there and in your case they aren't.

instead of doing that. Why don't you just go ahead and make the jump to the pre rooted ota .596? That would be easier maybe.

That might be risky. My impression is that 596 is an update to froyo, not a complete rom. For an experienced user who knows how to sbf, probably no big deal tho.

I went straight from .340 to .596 using the deodexed .596 "ROM" worked smooth. No issues yet, been a couple of days.

wait i thought the OP was basically on .340 rooted...all he has to do to get to .596 is apply the 2 part install from P3.

Doing the 2 part install WILL NOT work. I just SBF'd back to .340. Removed some system apps I deemed 'bloat' and the install of part 1 aborted and gave an error code 7. SBF'ing now to get back to where I was :p

SBF'd back to .340, downloading OTA now. Thanks all for the help, assuming the d/l and install goes well that is.... :)
