    Quick Settings

I put this here(along with in the App section) because a LOT of us DROID-X users are new to Android and some may not check out the App forum.

You can set a lot of stuff with this app from one place without having to search thru Preferences and Settings(and forget where they are the next time you want to set them). Also you can remove those ugly toggles from your screen.

I believe it's Quick Settings, the first thing in the post.

    Yup: Quick Settings

Find it in the Market or AppBrain.

I've been using QS for quite some time now. It really is a great little app to have.

Why would you want to toggle 3G on and off?

If you are in an area with no 3G coverage, the phone will constantly search for it- killing your battery life. So, many people turn it off.

That is pretty obvious. In these situations however, you can turn 3G off completely in settings.

Mind sharing your technique for turning 3g off and still receive calls and texts?

I discovered a similar app this morning; however, it seems it does not exist any longer. Perhaps the one you suggest is a good alternative.

Here's the one I was referring to:

If you have no signal you won't get a call or text anyway...

you can still have 1x signal but no 3g coverage... so you could still get calls/texts without the faster 3g coverage.
