Help Prevent Wifi from turning off during standby

How can I prevent Wifi from kicking off when the phone goes into standby for a while? Wifi is all I get at home and with it kicking off once the phone goes into standby, I'm missing Kik messages.

I'm rooted but I'm not using any 3rd party ROMs.

Go into wifi settings n press menu button and select advance then select wifi sleep policy and select never.

I think you should select "always" not "never" if you want Wifi to stay on at all times.

No the wifi sleep policy says "when do you want the wifi to turn off?" so you can select never, never when charging, or when screen off.
