Root Preventing GB OTA

I was doing some hex editing this morning and I think /system/app/updater.apk (aka blurupdater.apk) is what does the OTA on Froyo. Maybe a better way than removing otacerts.zip which kills the battery. I renamed it to updater.bak to see if it will prevent me from receiving the OTA. I could go to 588 or 595 and still be rooted but in case 596 comes unexpected, I don't want it to ruin my day. LOL

Anyone know more about this?
