    Here's the deal:

About a year ago Verizon sent out a limited-time offer for unlimited data for $9.99 a month. I jumped on that puppy, and even spread news around the forums for others. And I have 4 smartphone lines on my family plan, saving me $80 a month.

Question is this: if I renew my contract to get the Prime, will that go back to $29.99? Will it stay 10 bucks? And if it DOES revert back and I would lose that savings, won't it be to my benefit to just pay full retail for phones from now on and keep this wonderful deal?

Chief, while I'm super envious you've saved all this money :p, I would say Verizon is too much of a money machine to continue it. Can't say from experience; hopefully someone else can help you.

Well, I saw it but just never acted on it (honestly looked too good to be true). Ah well, at least I get to keep unlimited

I would THINK as long as you are renewing, it would stay that price. Same reason we are able to keep unlimited data until we change our contract. Never know what kind of trickery they might try to pull though to backpeddle out of it.

I think you're okay as long as you don't change anything with your plan. If you replace a smartphone with a smartphone, you should be good. I'm not in the exact same boat, but I signed up for the promo family plan w/ unlimited text and data last November that basically allows you to add lines for $19.99 a month additional. I think it's essentially the same way of arriving at the same cost as what you have. It is noticeably cheaper than a la carting everything for two lines.

The 9.99 plan is for life, regardless of your phone, at this point. I'd check it out to be sure, when you upgrade, though.

The rep is going to go nuts with me standing there, reading ALL the fine print of that new agreement! :p

But Steven58: OMG I hope you're right and we're locked in on $9.99 unlimited forever! JohnGalt pretty much helped confirm my math that, if any agreement seeks to do away with it, I would make out like a bandit paying full retail for phones from now on and staying month to month.

I have that discount and the other one given out this year stacked and I pay nothing for unlimited data. I upgraded this year and both stuck with it.

I called in and it was offered to me and it says I have both on the account. I am getting both of them plus friends and family on the 450 minute plan. They should not stack but I guess I got lucky.

I have been on the 9.99 data plan for a long time. When I moved to thunderbolt they did not remove it. This was also after the 1 year upgrade and tiered data changes.

I actually got the low down on this plan a few months ago (right after they switched to tiered data). I asked how things would work for upgrading with this plan and tiered data. Currently we have a 5 line share plan with this promo. Three of the lines have smartphones on them and 2 have feature phones.

Basically if you had a smartphone on the line prior to the roll out of tiered data you are grandfathered in, whether going to a 3G or 4G phone. If not (like the 2 feature phones on our plan) you are switched to a 2GB tier package.

As far as the $9.99 data, the only thing that could make you lose it is if you remove the data package from the line. I asked how long the promo lasts for and the rep told me until 2035. I asked if she was sure and she double checked it and said yes. She was surprised also since Verizon's promos usually only last at most for a couple of years.

So while not lifetime, it is a VERY long time. Very happy I got in on that. Hope that answers your question.

I didn't really think when this tiered data plan stuff started... I'm still on my parent's family plan. Now, if I ever get off of it I'm going to take a hit. Lol, will I be 35 and still on my parents plan in ten years? I would imagine things will change significantly in the coming decade.

The plan is for life. The 2035 date is because their computers only went 2035. If and when Verizon weans existing customers away from unlimited data, the 20 data discount will still apply. That is, unless the customer cancels data service, of course or something.
