I am a little worried about doing this. Sprint has an EVDO network in my area but ONLY works if I force EVDO, it is a Sprint network, but it's not does not seem to be official yet. Don't want to get locked out.

isn't the PRL determined by your location? So it's no sense updating it if there haven't been any new towers in your area...right? By all means, correct me if I'm wrong

Yes, I think if you're not from South or North Dakota that update did not affect you

that's what I figured. Considering I run of the same tower at my house no matter what, and there's nowhere closer for them to put one due to the terrain and getting power to it lol

I'm in Florida and got an automatic prl update the other day. Wonder if they added another tower? I've never had reception issues coverage is great here

Another Florida here. Got my automatic update 2 days ago.

Don't know if it's related, but battery life is much improved. Can't say I've seen a difference in my signal strength (at least that I've noticed).

PRL really has noting to do with Sprint towers. PRL stands for "Preferred Roaming List"...it simply updates your phone with any new roaming agreements Sprint has made so your phone knows which non-Sprint towers it can use.

There is also priority assigned, so if there isn't Sprint service available, but there are multiple non-Sprint towers available, it will use the one that Sprint has the cheapest rate agreemenet with.

I used to work at Sprint and 99.9 percent of the time, the PRL update identified new roaming agreements in other countries, or out in the middle of Montana somewhere. So realistically, it very rarely affects us normal users. So one single roaming agreement in the Bahamas can get pushed out in its own PRL update to all of us. Wohoo!

I have heard that in some RARE cases it can identify new Sprint coverage in certain areas.

I work in Conyers, GA and my phone updated this morning and hurray!
My phone now in on a 1x digital roaming tower (2 bars) instead of the EVDO tower that I've gotten a constant 3 bars for the past 6 months.

At least Pandora still works ...so no real complaints, but I don't I'll be able to watch the occasional you tube video on this connection.

BTW, all of a sudden I can't force EVDO only
    ...Thanks Sprint
