I am attempting to root my phone using unrevoked, flashing Leedroid. I went thourgh and rooted without a problem and wiped my phone. I then went to flash the rom and the guide instructed and my phone is giving me a message of "Installation Aborted. Apply update from .zip file on SD card. (Which does nothing when I try that option.

    Did I brick it? =/

Doesn't sound bricked. My biggest worry is that you haven't said anything about taking a nandroid before trying to flash - I hope this is just because you didn't think that needed saying.

How are you "applying the update"? Should be booting into recovery and using the "install update from zip" option. And what's giving you that message - recovery or some utility like ROM manager?

Nice to see another American here! :)

Where did you place the zip file of Leedroid?

    I think you're correction in the assumption that I didn't take a nandroid...it doesn't sound familiar.

And I'm in recovery and selecting the option to apply the update from the zip. I'm getting the message from...recovery. I think.

    =D

I just dropped it into the SD. Not into any of the folders on the card, just the card itself.

Are the words in green? Then you are in recovery.

Yep, green on black. Sorry, I'm a little new to rooting. =/

That's ok, we were all new once too! ;)

When you did your wipe, did you wipe everything, i.e. factory reset, clear cache, clear davlik cache?

OK, one more thing to check: your phone is GSM? You don't want to apply LeeDroid to a CDMA phone.

Can you still boot into your original ROM? If so, go back into recovery and make a backup from there before doing anything else - a recovery backup is what's known as a nandroid. It's essential before flashing because if anything goes wrong you can use it to get your phone back. There is a possibility that the phone will enter a boot loop after the first backup (sometimes happens when rooted using unrevoked), in which case you can fix by restoring from the same backup you just took. All in the FAQ - read that if you have not already done so.

Another thing: which LeeDroid? If it's the app2sd version, have you prepared your SD card first? If not, it won't work.

So, back to the main business: maybe it's not finding your .zip file? If the LeeDroid file has not been renamed to update.zip you'll need to select the option to choose the .zip to install instead, then select the file (which is how I always do it) - if we're lucky it'll be something that simple.

I did both the factory reset and the davik cache but I didn't clear cache.

P.S. Better to take a nandroid before wiping, but even after wiping it will save some hassle to have one if the flash goes wrong.

And it's not called nandroid anymore, just backup. ;)

How would I go about doing that?

First of all, Hadron is right, do you have a gsm phone?

And which Leedroid version do you have?

From the recovery menu select backup/restore, then backup.

But make sure you can boot into the ROM first - no point otherwise.

Going to be offline for a few minutes now, but I'm sure Lecter can advise. Will rejoin when on my train.

I dunno what 'GSM' phone is, and I downloaded 6.1 I think.

EDIT: Errrr 2.3. Sorry. Dunno where I got 6.1 from.

Does it have a itty bitty sim card or is it built in?

A few things need covering here :

    - The GSM/CDMA issue is crucial... does your phone have a SIM card? If it does then LeeDroid will be fine. If not then stop and find a CDMA rom

    - Do make a backup if you haven't already done so. It's just from the backup/restore menu in recovery

    - LeeDroid 6.1? It only goes up to 2.3d so a little confusion here ;) EDIT - Sorted

    - Make sure you're not flashing 'Update.zip' point it to the downloaded LeeDroid zip file. The name will make it obvious

    - Echo the above comments on the A2SD version (the best one) - you need to prep your SD card before flashingt he rom or it will go into a boot loop.

Your version needs partitioning, for a2sd, follow the guide in my sig.

I don't have a SIM card, so that would probably be why it didn't work. I'll definitely do a backup.

Haha yeah, I meant 2.3. I tried to quickly edit my post but I guess I was too slow.

And I had selected LeeDroid, but it was telling me the installation was aborted and to update from the SD card.

Sounds like a lucky escape to be honest - could have been worse. Have a look over on xda for a CDMA rom. Am no expert here by a long way so can't recommend any...

So it's CDMA; you need a rom that works for that.

Makes sense. So, just partition and get a CDMA type and I should be fine?

First find a rom and check back here. ;)
