    Hey everyone,

Okay, so I'm an idiot, and have a habit of fiddling with things...whether it's trying to get Mac OS to work on my PC...or whatever.

I saw a friend at school today with the the Gingerbread operating system on his new HTC (Not sure what model). I decided there and then that I wanted it on my desire. So I did some research, and found that it was possible.

So, I rooted my phone, no problems. Downloaded the Oxygen distro of the Gingerbread operating system, then decided that I don't like it. So I want the original Operating system back.

    This is what I've done (or not done);
From the recovery menu, I created a GOOGLE backup, and nandroid backup didn't work (I thought it would be sufficient; it wasn't). I didn't create a gold card.

So, basically, I don't have a copy of the original OS to put back on to it.

I would like it to be reverted to the original OS (I think it's

If your not a fan of the gingerbread Rom, there is other froyo roms you could try, but I've never seen any eclair roms, what network are you on and is/was your phone branded? Also have a look at shipped roms website for your phones ruu.

I don't know what a google backup from recovery would be - the only backup you can make from recovery is a nandroid. You say it didn't work, but if you actually took a backup from recovery can you provide a bit more information?

Anyway, the question is whether you want the original Sense interface back, or whether you want to be unrooted as well? Both are possible.

Question re Eclair: why would you want it back? Even if you want to unroot, why not unroot to Froyo? I only had Eclair for a few weeks, but cannot think of anything it did better.

As ducky has said, they key questions if you wish to unroot are whether your phone was branded or not, and if branded what network you were on? And another question: Bravo or BravoC, i.e. GSM or CDMA (SIM card or not)? If you were actually still on Eclair then I suspect it might be CDMA, but it's important to know.

My phone is Branded, it's Orange.
I think the Google backup only backs up the system files (So the HTC Sense would have been backed up).
I believe it's GSM, but don't hold me to that.
And I just want the one that's closest to the original system that's on brand new HTCs.

You cant unroot an orange desire. You could once unroot amoled only orange desires but that fails now too.

Well you can unroot to unbranded but may aswell stay rooted anyway, Its not like you can get warranty back

Why do you want it to be as close as possible?

Im not sure you have fully explored or understood what you have got. Theres always a better solution

If it's Orange it's GSM (CDMA is a North American standard, and all European Desires are GSM).

I'm still not sure what Google backup you mean - there is (on later Android versions) an option to back up your list of market apps and some data (WiFi access points etc) to Google's servers, which I guess might be what you are referring to, but that should be available on any recent ROM (I've changed ROMs a couple of times in the last few weeks, so I've unticked the boxes for this a few times during the intial setup, and none of these were Sense ROMs).

As SUroot says, there's no way back to unrooted Orange software. You could unroot, but you can't replace the Orange ROM so the warranty is gone anyway, so there's not a lot of point - it's more hassle to give yourself fewer options.

If you really want something as close to the original software as you can get (only unbranded), I'd suggest teppic74's rooted stock Froyo. But you can also have Gingerbread with the original Sense, or with updated versions of Sense, or you can try some of the alternatives. This thread is the reference for finding out what is available.

Edit: You should make a goldcard anyway. Because there is no Orange RUU (the reason you can't revert to official Orange software), if you ever need to use an RUU for any reason (e.g. to fix a major software screw up, or because you want to unroot anyway) you'll need one of these.

The backup that I'm referring to is "Backup Google proprietary system files".

And I could get used to the gingerbread OS, but I don't like the layout, but if I can't unroot, then I don't really have an option, so I'll just have to stick with it.

I like the old Sense OS because of the layout, I guess I was just used to it, so I guess I can get used to this one.

    Hmm...

To be honest, I would be happy with this ROM, if a few things were carried over from the original install; The gallery (I hate the current one) and allowing to skip songs from the Lock screen, everything else is pretty sleek.
One other thing, though ... my battery gets VERY hot whilst charging ... is this normal?

Thanks everyone, I didn't quite see what I had a few days ago, I do now.

I also hate the "3d gallery" with AOSP ROMs. I just use QuickPic instead - nothing fancy, but much more useable for me.

Oxygen has a setting that lets you skip tracks with a long press on the volume key. Don't know about lockscreen as I use WidgetLocker and add my preferred music player's widget to that, which gives me that functionality.

Charging generates heat anyway, and if you are running the phone while charging it will get warm. Hard to tell from here whether what you experience is reasonable, of course, but some heat is to be expected.
