Loaded up MIUI 10/14 and 4.1 sbc kernel yesterday. All fine

So I woke this morning and my phone was bootlooping. No worries, pull battery, boot to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache, reboot:)

No dice, could not get into recovery:(

So then I realized the battery was dead, charged up, still can't get into recovery.

Tried a new battery from Batteries Plus, no dice. (They let me open up a battery and still nothing)

Now mind you, I still have the PC36IMG.zip on the root of of my sd card so each time I go to the bootloader, it asks if I want to update. I've said yes a few times and no a few times and still nothing.

So then, I get the ruu for my phone that I used to root back in Feb. 107 usb connection error. Now with the Hero, you couldn't run the ruu with an AOSP rom, so I'm assuming I can't run it with the Evo either but still nothing:(

So then, I'm thinking there's something wrong with the sd card and the recovery. I go and get a card reader, delete the old PC36IMG.zip and download and put a new PC36IMG.zip on the sd card.

It asks if I want to update, I say yes, it updates, try and boot to recovery and still nothing. It just bootloops over and over.

Now what's strange, if I leave the phone plugged, go to the bootloader, try to go to recovery, it bootloops. So while still being plugged in, I pull battery and put the battery back in, the phone continues to bootloop without me touching any button.

So, after a day of trying to figure out a solution when I have time, I'm stuck.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Unfortunately, I have to go to work tonight and since I don't have a phone:p, I won't be able to respond to anything on these forums until after 11 pm.

Throw some things out there for me if you would, it would be much appreciated:D

Sorry if this is an obvious question:

Have you tried to boot into recovery without any PC36IMG.zip files on your card (and preferably with a stock or MikG ROM zip on the card you can flash if then let in to recovery)?

Sorry to hear about that, sounds like a nightmare!

Unfortunately, in my short time here I've never seen anything like this.
I'll see what I can dig up, this post is more to let you know someones trying to help than having an actual solution at this point. I always feel better when someone responds to my questions, it lets you know your heard

Strange for me too. Just really confused why I can't do much other than getting to the bootloader screen.

Another thing that's strange, while it's bootlooping, I'm able to press power and volume down and get back to the bootloader screen:thinking: without pulling battery. I didn't think we were able to this?

bad news. sorry to hear that.

is there a version of PC36IMG.zip that IS a recovery? maybe that would get you into a recovery.

edit: guess that was stupid, that is the recovery, huh? sorry. good luck!

So I was looking around xda, and someone mentioned some other obvious questions we should rule out (again, sorry to start with the very basics):

-Are you sure your card is a sdhc card and not an sd card? (apparently that makes a difference)

-The PC36IMG.zip you're trying: are you trying to flash a stock/base rom, or a new recovery, or...?

(and of course, you've made sure it's not doing the windows "PC36IMG.zip.zip" thing?)

--From other threads that seem to have similar issues to you, it seems maybe reflashing a new recovery might be a possible fix. So some advice is to try to push amon ra via adb.

    Find it here,
    then
And slightly different instructions I've seen:
**Again, just reading threads here, more knowledgeable folk should correct me if I'm wrong.

If its recognizing and asking to update it should be able to recognize it as a PC36IMG.zip so he must have named it correctly.

If you havent already I would try to redownload the recovery PC35MIG and replace it just to make usre thats what it is

I would put in a different SD card and pull the battery out for like 5 to 10 minutes even though it seems to be reading the card the card could still have a bad spot or two. See it working with a different card will allow you to go into recovery. In the mean time with the current card try putting the card into a card reader and in windows run:
    chkdsk x: /f /r
command in a dos box (replace x with your drive letter) and see if it shows any bad spots or if windows fixes the file system. If the card shows bad spots remove what you can from the card and put it on a new card. IF however it does not have any issues then apparently the problem is in the phone and I'm not sure what's going on there. I'll look around and see if i can come up with something that no one else has yet.

For some reason, I've never been able to get adb going on my computer, unfortunately, I don't believe that the phone will be recognized on the computer. I tried to rerun auto-root and it comes up " not able to recognize phone"

Yea, I've done this too. From amon ra xda thread and from here in ocnbrze rooting GB thread.

I was thinking about trying a new card but if the card is corrupted, why is still updating the recovery in bootloader? Strange to say the least

Not to throw this one out there but is there any possibility that the sbc kernel did a trick on my phone? Never had troubles before but I'm absolutely stumped on what's going on:thinking:

My wife has the Evo also, so I'm going to try her battery once it gets charged up

I know, was wondering if it somehow cooked something in the phone. was going to ask if you had left it on charging the night before? didn't want to be casting aspersions on sbc though.

Anyone know what's the best way to format the sd card? I do have the card partitioned so I'm not exactly sure how to reformat the card.

Yea, I don't want to start that up but again I'm stumped on this whole situation. I did leave it on the charger but when I went to sleep at 2am, it was at 20%. I got up at 6:45 and it was in the bootloop

Formatted the sd card, put a fresh version PC36IMG on the sd card, went to bootloader, it asked to update, it did, tried to boot to recovery, bootloop:(

Unless someone has another idea, i believe I may have a fried phone and the only variable I can think of that would have done this is the sbc kernel but who knows.

    So.........back to the hero I may have to go:eek: I need a phone:p

Yep, I flashed the one I originally used to root my phone. It was for froyo.

Should I try the GB ruu? But I'll probably get the 107 HSBC connection error

it is just a PC36IMG file. so rename it and put it on the root of the card. and let hboot do its thing. you will not be unrooted but you will have a stock recovery. so if you can boot up your phone then all you need to do is install a custom recovery again.

Well, it's definitely doing something right now, do I reboot or put the amon ra PC36IMG back on and boot back to the bootloader?
