I have the same problem. Is yours Bell or ATT? I OTA'd 2.3.4 and then used Brief Mobile to root. Installed Rom MAnager Premium and can't do anything with it. I have only tried to back up current Rom so far and get he same results as you.

Hopefully some guru knows whats up!

In searching further I am seeing people ask if the phone is unlocked. Can someone confirm, in order to use rom managers backup currrent rom or restore, does the phone not only have to be rooted but also unlocked?

Turns out you do have to be unlocked to use these rom manager functions.

You do have to unlock the bootloader. I just took this plunge this weekend. I am very new as well, and was running 2.3.4 OTA Gingerbread. The thing is, to unlock the phone I had to flash the sbf file using RSD Lite, even though the beginner's guide in the Pudding post said Gingerbread users could skip to step 13.

I was very scared because one of the comments in that post warned that using RSD Lite to flash the sbf would brick the phone. It did not brick mine. I think the problem people were having was trying to use RSD Lite to flash back to an earlier version. I've not tried that and won't.

In any event, I am now rooted, unlocked and running CM7 beta as my OS. It's great.

The thing that you guys need to understand is that unlocking your bootloader voids your warranty. Also, there is no way to re-lock your bootloader - the process of unlocking it trips a switch and that's it, a one way street - *forever*.
