Root Problems noticed since rooting

I run Go Launcher EX and when attempting to use their contacts widget I get the message "The application contacts storage (process com.Motorola.contacts) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.....then I have to force close it. Is there a setting I need to change?

Also, when I try to sign up for Google Voice and My Verizon neither of them will work, seems like there is a problem verifying the phone number. Is this because of rooting? Is there something I can do to fix this?

Thanks for your time...

Rooting would not have caused any of those problems. Rooting is like "run as administrator" in windows. It gives you the ability to customize and screw up your phone at the same time. I would try wiping cache and dalvic cache in recovery, reboot, then do a soft reset by either pulling the battery or holding both volume up and down and power at the same time. See if that works.

Did you load a custom rom?

Thanks for the reply. I am running Eclipse. We got rid of a bunch of bloatware with Rom Toolbox and wasn't sure if we got rid of a few things we shouldn't have.

My friend did it for me and as far as I know he did, I remember him mentioning that to me. Out side of those 2 things (and the dropped data thing) it seems to work perfect.

you might want to bring the force closes up in the eclipse thread here Eclipse there might be an issue with the rom. you can also reflash the rom again. If you need help with flashing a rom just ask

That happened to me once when I removed a little too much of what I thought was bloat. I can't remember the program but it was one of the email or corporate email programs that I removed that cause the contact widget to FC and prevent me from seeing contact info. I hope this helps.

I can supply the stock 5.5.886 version, and I am on 5.9.901, but if you're on any of the .893 versions, I cannot help - some other kind soul will have to help.

FWWI - get Titanium Backup so you can freeze the apps instead of removing them - live up to your nickname, and it'll help you out in the long run.

I get the force close message on my contacts, dialer, guided tours (under device set up). I cannot use the favorite widget on the phone either and it's driving me crazy as my contacts are there - I just can't access them. they were uploaded with gmail account. I do not have any yahoo apps on my phone.

I have no idea how to do a wipe, eclipse, rom, etc.

I just want to be able to use my contacts, dialer and favorite key. could use your help.

the version I am on is: 5.5.886.XT875.Verizon.en.us

Please help

Thanking you in advance.

mdnitebrz,

This is the "All Things Root" section and it sounds like you are not rooted.
So you need not be concerned with ROMs, Eclipse, wiping, freezing etc.

Now, on to your issues.
It sounds to me like you need to do a factory reset on your phone.
The downside of doing that is you will lose any information you currently have on your phone (contacts, text messages, phone log, etc) but you will not lose any information you have saved on the SD card (pictures, music etc.).

You could try manually downloading the .893 OTA software patch and see if that helps as well.

PS:
Sorry for the threadjack freezy74 ;)
