I have transferred some music from my PC to my HTC Desire by copying the files on the PC to the 'music' file on the SD card (using the USB connection).

A few of the albums have registered under the artist, but the majority of the albums have all registered under artist 'Unknown'.

Can anyone recommend a way to transfer music so it registers correctly under the artist name...?

I think I've found out what the problem might be - .wma files don't seem to register the artist on the phone, but .mp3 files do. I think I will need to convert all my .wma files to .mp3! Sounds like a big job!!!!!

There's plenty of free batch converters out there, but have you tried simply checking that the wma's have valid tags?
I use MP3TAG to make sure everything has valid tags, and that they are uniform across my collection. It supports wma, maybe worth a look?
