I'm interested in customizing my pull down tab. I'm running cm7 and loving my new bootanimation! Now I want to tinker with the notification tab. Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Ok, I successfully completed my own notification bar! I would like to thank Lordvincent first, and cwhatever, and wet biker. Lordvincent gave me the information, cwhatever helped by answering some questions, nd wet biker encouraged me a while back about making my own customizations! Thanks guys! Oh yeah, vce2007 has also given me a lot of encouragement! Anyway, here is a screenshot... Sorry for a link, I'm still a noob and don't know how to post screen shots

You would have to use apktool or something like it to fully edit that, some can be done with like 7zip and just edit stuff in systemui and framework-res.

Yes, Lordvincent actually made me one and I love it, but I have two more of these phones and want to figure out how to do it from scratch. :)

I have been learning myself from the scratch and have been getting the hang of it with Gus and J6 and Lv's help. More to it than what you would think. I will, and others will chime in to help, just ask what you want to do in specific.

Ok, here's what I would like to see, a transparent pulldown, with embedded image. Is that possible, and where do I start?

Embedded as in the color ir the text?

Ok, this picture in the pulldown, and the background of the pulldown transparent. Or how could I just place this picture in the pulldown?

Not really quite sure how you would go about that? The pull down is a color or transparent of the home screen. If that is your homescreen then that is is possible. If someone else knows of a way they might chime in. That is a tough one, but hey, just about anything can be done! You can change the color the text, ect..... but as far as that, I don't know?

How can I just add the picture?

To the pulldown? Not sure you can? Now for the home page, like any other pic. So not really sure what you are trying to accomplish here?

(This is a copy of the pm I sent you, since I didn't notice the thread until after I sent you the message... ;) )
    OK, its fairly easy. :D
You need to take a copy of systemui.apk from the rom you are running (in your case cm7) its located in /system/app.

Then you need to open it as a zip and extract the /res/drawable-mdpi/ folder.

Then look for shade_bg.png inside the folder you extracted (this is the image that shows in the notification bar)

Then I opened the image in gimp (a photo editing program)

First thing I had to do was switch the mode from indexed color to rgb color. (In gimp its image>mode>rgb)

Next I opened the image you gave me as a new layer on top of the shade_bg layer. Your image was larger than the shade_bg layer so I had to scale it down (layer>scale layer)

Once I got it proportioned to the size of shade_bg I then cut off the white part (after I added an alpha channel to it, so it had transparency)
---right click the layer>add alpha channel
---then since it was circular I selected the image with the circle select tool, selected the inverse [select>invert] (so everything but your image was selected) and deleted it. [Delete button]
(The idea is to crop out the part you don't want. The 'select by color' tool is ideal for this too)

Once I had it looking the way I wanted, I flattened the image
---image> flatten image. (This merges the layers together into one image)

Once it was flat, I changed it back to indexed color (image>mode>indexed color)

Then I did file>export (because if I selected save it would have made it gimp format) and exported it as the same name 'shade_bg.png'

Now that I had the completed image I opened systemui.apk as a zip (don't unzip it, because it will break the signature and won't work anymore) and copied the edited image to systemui.apk/res/drawable-mdpi/ (which was the original place I got it from) then I placed it inside the apkinstaller and it was ready to go.

Its really easier than it sounds as long as you have some patience and a little bit of Photoshop knowledge.

If you wanted a transparent version of the image you linked, all you should have to do is crop/scale it to the size of the shade_bg.png and set the transparency of the image before you saved (exported) it. Then copy it back into systemui.apk

Will that put the image on the thread? I see screen shots in other threads without clicking on links

Yes, you take the link and put it inside img tags.

The photo bucket app has an option to just copy a link with the IMG tags already on it,

You would do [ IMG ]insert URL here [ / URL ] (without the spaces)

if you use the app, just tap the bottom one and it will give you the URL with the IMG tag already on it

My name is Aaron, and Tara is my girl. We both use this login cause we both enjoy electronics. Tara spends more time here than me though:) I And for Bloods question, I am just a man who loves research and am studying higher degrees. I am fond of "tubil cain" ;) Does that help? And ps, Tara really like you Lordvincent! You help her a lot. I agree with her too you are a very helpful and knowledgeable person
