Does anyone use this app? If so, when you have the monthly calendar widget on your screen and you tap a particular day, what happens? Does it just pull up appointments for that day or do you get the default Android day view?

Default Android day view. Doesn't matter where you click.

    :(

Not the answer I wanted to hear. Why can't they make a monthly calendar that will just show my appointments for the day I click on? I hate having to scroll around the entire day to see what I have scheduled.

I'm using smooth caladar widget, it syncs with the stock calendar and shows your next 3 appointments/schedule. If you want to edit, it takes you to the stock calendar...not sure if this is what you're looking for.

I'm using pure grid calendar and when I tap on a day it launches a custom dialogue listing all events for that day, and when I click on one of those I get the default event view for that event. I'd suggest you buy it, try it for a day and if you don't like it, refund.
