ok so i started out with 2.1 and rooted and the superuser icon was a ninja...then i updated to 2.2 and it stayed the same...then when i installed the Tranquility ROM i lost root and the superuser icon changed to the skull looking thing...my question is which is the newest version of Superuser...i have so many files for my phone on my computer and when i was going through them thats when i notices the different Superuser.apk's...the first was about 28kb and the other one iis 192kb....i never heard anything about an updated superuser apk except on alldroid at the end of the tutorial for how to update to 2.2 there is instructions for updating superuser...i know that the 28kb apk is the one with the ninja icon and the 192kb one is the skull looking icon..so which is the newest and please provide a link to a thred on any forum that discussed it..thank you

The superuser is the skull...that's what all ROMs have now. The ninja is outdated

I don't think it matters SU is SU but the new one can be updated through the market

I have the ninja icon also. Downloaded the newest version, have no idea how to install it.

Just down load it from the market or use the one in Koush's boot strapper

The market one installation fails. I gotta look into it more when I can get to my pc. Apparently there is a solution. I'll check into it later today when I can kick my wife off my PC.

EDIT: Fixed. I just had to uninstall the existing SU via ADB.

Hey could you give me a little help on why I cannot get this to work for me?

Did you do it this way?

    adb remount
    adb shell rm /system/app/Superuser.apk
    adb shell pm uninstall com.noshufou.android.su

If I do it that way I get this error:

    I was doing this,

    adb shell
    su
adb remount and then it was saying adb: not found

    Anyone have any advice?

    Thanks

you cant use adb remount when in adb shell. When in shell the mount command is mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
To mount the system back in RO once you are done the command is mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system

Two questions: 1) Do I need this newer superuser, btw yes I want it I think.
    2) How do I go about deleting old superuser and installing new one. But one catch it needs to be broken down to something I can understand. I have come a long way, but still have a lot to learn. Thank you.

I think by updating the Superuser is a must. I think that's why some people are loosing root when trying to update the leaks and coming from other roms. Cause it happened to me, had to SBF and i updated the SU and have never lost root in all the updating and flashing i've done.

Just a theory, can't really prove it.

Updating Superuser is not essential imo. I dont think the losing root when updating is a result of old su as much as it is permissions not setting correctly during the update process. Im not sure though cause it hasnt happened to me.

Updating to the new Superuser is so easy that you might as well do it though.

download that onto your sd card.

    Reboot into recovery.
Then go into mounts and storage
    then mount /system
press power to go back to the main menu
    then install zip from sdcard
    choose zip from sdcard
then choose the zip you just downloaded
    then reboot.
