Root question about GNM recovery

can I replace /system with an update.zip of all the system stuff? or somehow get a basic only rooted nandroid m130? i broke my gps maybe and just want to try again from scratch. eliminate some of the variables.

so i tried doing a system restore, and this time when i went to google maps the gps didn't even show the gps signal icon in upper right. interesting...

but im calling it. my gps is dead. along with my camera and tactile key. sigh...parts from ebay...
