Question about switchin carrier/phones

Hi my phone recently started acting real funny, like turning off during phone calls, losing signals and all that. Some of the buttons an jamming up and require multiple hard presses to function right. It has been through a lot of hardship with me, so that may be why.

So I've decided to get a new phone and I'm in a bind right now. I am currently on a Family plan on Verizon with my parent's with a additional data plan for my phone. My brother recently switched over to AT&T for the IPhone from his Tmobile Samsung Galaxy S2. I'm wondering if I could get use the Galaxy S2 with Verizon as it's carrier. And would I still be able to use the same plan I'm using now on the Galaxy S2? Or would a upgrade in the dataplan or something be required?

It would appear that Verizon sells the Galaxy S3 rather than the S2; as to the plan, sticking with your current one would likely require paying the full price for the phone ($600) as opposed to the price with a new 2-year contract ($200).

Of course, I am not an expert - any other opinions out there?

T-Mobile and AT&T are GSM Networks. Verizon and Sprint are CDMA. The T-Mobile SGS2 will not work on Verizon.

I see. So i would have to swap over to tmobile then? Is it possible to keep my old number that I have with Verizon and overwrite my brother's old number on the SIM card? Or would I have to purchase a new SIM card?

You can transfer the number if you want to keep it and you'd need a new SIM card. However, if you have a T-mobile account, I wouldn't be surprised if they'd swap the SIM card for you when you transfer the number to their network.
