When setting up your rom there is a question " allow google's location service to collect anonymous location data even when no services are running" I was wondering what every one else selects here y or N. Also is this a battery hog? I would think so but not sure.

I always select yes, never saw a difference in battery. I believe this is set so Google accesses either your GPS to provide local results for searchess, or it uses tower triangulation / WiFi addresses to get a "general" location. Let's say you type in Chinese restaurant, Google will access your location to provide local search results.
I "assume" this is what it is used for primarily, but I'm not 100% sure.

I agree it doesn't seem to hurt my battery life either
