I am going to try and root my phone tonight so that I can install the new Fresh Rom. I always see people saying that you should read and read and read before you root. Do I really need to read and read and read when there are step by step instructions to follow? Also, at what point of the process of rooting are you most vulnerable to bricking your phone? Thanks for any input you might have.

Yes you need to read. Yes it walks you through, but if you read it through at least 1-2 times before doing it, watch the video, you will have a better understanding of what to do and what is going to happen.
During the rooting process you can't brick your phone. Just don't flash a ROM that is GSM or a GSM Radio.

Just did it myself for the first time two days ago.
Fresh Kitchen's auto root could not be any easier. I highly recommend it.
But read first. Definitely still read first.
