    Hi guys

Just got my Desire and it's my first smartphone so you'll have to excuse the n00bish questions.

If Mobile Internet is turned on then is the phone constanty using the data connection and eating away at battery power?

I have set up a shortcut on my home screen to turn the connection on and off but I'm just curious if I need to keep flicking that or does it only get used when I actually go into an application that requires the connection? Or if something is syncing based on that apps indivual settings - the weather for example.

    Cheers!

It isn't constantly using data, but apps in the background may use it on occasion when syncing/updating their information. It will use more battery being on than off too

It depends on the apps that you have as some apps need to use it and some dont.
