    Hi all
Is there a quicker way to enter smiles other than menu settings etc?
    Cheers

There's a set of them on the second numeric page of the stock keyboard, not much (or indeed any) less effort than menu -> insert smilie. I imagine there are other keyboards with more accessible ones if you need that but I don't as I don't use smilies that often... See.

Smilies are just text, colon minus closed bracket.

On Swype, you can just swype the smily and out it pops. Doesn't work for grumpy frowns, however! :-(

It does, you just have to enter them once, select and touch the swype symbol (i) key... ;-)

It's even quicker just to type it out and press space. It'll remember any combination you do that with.

when you say "type" do you mean long presses ? or just tap the keys and the dictionary will automatically interpret it as a smiley ?

Are you guys using the stock messaging app or a 3rd party app like handcent ?
