    Since the FM Radio doesnt work unless you have headphones in...what about using some cheap external speakers? Does it have to be just headphones?

    speakers should work fine. It is using the cord as an antenna

    Yep, I've hooked up a couple of 2.1 sets via the jack without any issues. You might need to purchase an adapter depending on the speaker cable input (Radioshack has various ones).

    What I did was just cut off an old pair of headphpones and kept about 5" of the cord. Then I just plug it in and use the built in speaker if I want to hear the radio play out loud.

    Woah, I absolutely love this concept. Though $30 seems a bit high for such a small speaker.
