An update that will start on 5 Feb... but it's not cupcake? WTF?

    From androidsite.com

According to a statement from T-Mobile, the RC33 update is on the way to the G1 soon. But this is not the Cupcake that everyone has been waiting for. Looks like just a few little bugfixes and a few new features:

The next update is for the market to allow paid for apps. It may be included in the above.

Between February 5th and February 15th, T-Mobile will be releasing OTA Update 1.1 or RC33 for T-Mobile G1 owners. This news is official, coming from an Administrator at T-Mobile’s customer forums. Unfortunately, they have also officially said that this update is NOT cupcake and that it will merely include “bug fixes and feature enhancements”.If you’re [...]

It would make sense for them to turn on the money spigot sooner than later, as noted in many places they will attract a much greater wealth of software waiting on the sidelines to jump in.

It would be a cool thing for Rob/Phandriod to track....app count in the Market over time.

    Digg, Engadget esque?

    Vote comments up or down?

I hope they also realize the "most popular flaw" in the market too. Which is that I downloaded Pac-man but then deleted it. Do they track that?

Clearly if they know what apps I have downloaded or they used a profiling tool like aTrackDog they could tell us what people actually have on their phones.

I would rather trust aTrackDog's popularity index than the market's at this time.

It looks like they just added the ability to mark it as spam. I'm not sure how exactly that will be handled by them. Let's hope that marking a comment as spam is the same as voting it down so that the comments not marked as spam can shine through.

Folks on Android Community are reporting that RC33 is in the wild.

If you've gotten RC33 let us know when and where!

I hope not, I doubt T-Mobile will taint their reputation by limiting this to the US only. Here's to hoping.....

I'm in a 2G market and am leaving Wi-Fi on in the event updates are influenced by connection speed...

My guess is those of us in the EDGE hinterland will be the last to get RC33...

Actually... I've been freaking out a bit about my phone today because I'm using Netmeter and I can see my phone sending and receiving data and a bit of CPU being used... even after a reboot. I didn't think I was using any new applications or anything and I was wondering what was going on. I've gotten about 1Mb of data in the past couple hours without any applications running. I came here to do research and it sounds like R33 is being rolled out. Maybe that's that what's going on and my phone is downloading it in the background? I hope so.
