That just goes to show you that your phone might be a lemon, try getting it swapped. I get a steady 4G signal at my place in Los Angeles, and 4G isn't even "officially" here yet.

I remember when I had a problem with the Hero's battery life, everyone was in denial. Hope you find a good replacement.

I always love these "bad battery life" threads after someone gets a new phone. They dont realize they are playing with it all day with probably every feature running on it along with screen at full brightness. Then after the excitement is over after a few days and you start using it like you did your old phone, you will come and say the battery life is improving. Happens with every one of these new android phone releases... lol

I unhooked my Evo at 7:30am today, got into work at 9am, and have had the wifi hotspot on all day, using it tethered to my iPad. I've surfed on and off throughout the day and now at 3:58pm, some 8.5 hours later it at 7%.

I sent a dozen or so texts, had one other salesmen tether for maybe 20 mins to enter an order at work, and have gmail pushing mail all day. I've read some email, checked weather and stocks. I run no widgets other than the HTC clock/weather ones that came stock. I turned off the autoupdates in the system settings on everything but email and twice today I used ATK to shut down background apps.

This coming from yesterday running half a dozen widgets and the battery only making about 4 hours. Turning off the auto updates to crap like facebook and the other Sprint apps and removing widgets made the battery life double even while leaving on the Hotspot feature today. I think people need to do a bit of reading and understand just how much "stuff" their phone is doing before making claims they have a defective phone.

If you just switched from an iPhone there are clearly thing to manage vs the locked down iPhone Eco system. iPhone has good battery life for a reason, no real multitasking.

I listened to 2 hrs straight of podcasts and it didn't even dent the battery but after about 40 minutes of web, email etc (via wifi) it was down to around 60%. I wouldn't give it up but battery life is quite poor. I have spare batteries but removing the case then removing the back is a PITA. (4G, GPS is off). Also the back is kind of cheesy for a $500+ device. Don't think those plastic clips will last very long with all the battery swapping. Hopefully replacements are covered by Sprint's TEP or cheap replacements are available.

What? I consider the Evo and the iPhone 4 to be on the same playing field. If it wasn't, why would anyone get an iPhone to be on the crappy AT&T network? If iPhone would make it across to other carriers, the sales numbers for the iPhone will increase significantly. Evo on other carriers? Probably not as significant. You are no different than the iPhone fanboy.

May I inject a caveat here? Why are we expecting perfection from anything that is man made? Man is an imperfect being, thus anthing created by man will not be perfect!

My sugggestion to the OP is to simply choose the phone that you thinks works best for your personal needs and fits your lifestyle. If it's the iPhone, good for you; if it's the EVO, good for you; either way, you ultimately must deal with the consequences from the decision that you make. Just my 2 cents worth.

I'm on my 2nd replacement, same crappy battery life. Changing phones won't help battery life unless you really got a lemon and your Evo operates less than 2 hours on standby.

When I'm buying something for my 2 cents, I would want it to be the best that it can be. Why would you want something less for your money. iPhone while dumbed down is very intuitive and easy to use, even my 5 year old daughter can use it while the Evo is more complex.

    Nerdy stuff
My battery life is about the same if not a little better than my Hero on 2.1. I leave 4G off. I agree with the OP's remark about non-existent 4G signals.

I live in Austin and cannot get 4G at home, work, or just about anywhere else. Not acceptable as my friend's 4G USB modem gets a signal everywhere my Evo doesn't. What gives?

I am very pleased with the phone otherwise. But 2500mhz 4G for a cell phone is just plain fail. Verizon's 700mhz LTE is going to smoke the holy crap out of Clear's. 700mhz will get through a tank.

When you have to request that everyone in the room stop using WiFi in order to use your "Crown Jewel", there is a problem!

When the phone that you are replacing loads faster than your product that is a "Giant Leap Forward" from the 2007 original, there is a problem....

Again I say, if Man has his hands in the development of ANY technology, there will be problems; and that my friend is the truth!

You are missing my point here; even if the product that you purchase is considered the best that money can buy, there will be problems; maybe not with your purchase, but with another persons purchase. That is the nature of the beast.

Our technology as great as it is, has flaws and is not capable of producing error free products yet. I am afraid we have quite a ways to go before that happens.

lol so wait... you're not willing to pay the premium for this phone, but your willing to pay the much higher premium for the iphone? That's some amazing logic.

His iPhone will last all day and them some because with AT$T data cap he better not use it at all and for nothing or his bill will be through the roof..

Well that sucks for you. I've had my phone off the charger for since 12am now and it's 2pm. Still have half battery life. I was surfing, reading emails, and downloading like crazy from the marketplace for about 2 hours. Still good for me. Yeah, the Iphone might be a better phone for beginners. :) LOL Oh and I actually pay less at Sprint... just saying... haha

for all you guys saying the phone battery suck, i agree!!! but its because all the good feature running thats why, so what about turning off all the feature when you are not using ???? it last me all day from 9am to 8pm.
way to go is "turn the feature on when you need it".
its the best phone out there with the best feature, but it depends how you use it.
I'm not a big evo fan but i love it a lot, i work at radioshack and also getting my wife the new iphone 4 so we can have both top cell phone and also compare too.
if you turn on all the feature on iphone its just going to be the same as evo and DIE!!!

Just for the hell of it I'm going to hammer on my phones battery tonight. If it lasts more than two hours after unrelenting battery torture, I'm going to have to call bullocks.

P.s. I know it will seeing as it hadall weekend including launch day.

Sent from my HTC Evo 4G using Tapatalk Pro.

Bottom line for me is I don't want to constantly fiddle with my phone to keep it working. I don't want to turn 4G or Wifi on if I'm going to use the internet. I dont want to turn on BT before i get into my car. I dont want to have to kill processes so that my phone will make it through the day. i just want it to be available when I need it.

This phone does not do that. Any phone that, left unattended, dies in several hours is worthless to me.

I swore off the iPhone, but I hate the blackberry even more, so my options for a phone that will meet my preference are slim. iPhone 4 is looking tempting, and I hate myself for saying it.

Like i said before this poster is a flat out Liar with an agenda. Stop feeding this troll and it will go away.

Why complain about a phone then when everyone tells you how to fix it you just keep your iphone fanboy response up.

You dont have the EVO, you never did. You have an iphone.

Your 2 hour post was proof enough that you are just trolling the EVO boards.

    Get lost.
