Just bought an XT 701 Motorola (unlocked) is unlocked the same as rooted. With the talk out there about Froyo 2.2 I wasn't sure if i should try installing it. (really noob) so i looked at tether software and most say must be rooted. I feel like a tool asking this question but only had the phone 1 week (got rid of BB) and I am playing catchup

The XT701 is a Motorola Motoroi. You should not follow the Motorola Milestone Root guide. They are different phones.
