    Hi,

I searched around but couldn't find any app able to re-arrange an android phone screens icon from a remote computer. I think it would be very useful, as one could make good use of the computer's larger screen and mouse.

Any idea why this has not been yet done or - alternatively - do you know any app allowing this? The screen icons position must be set on a file, and a lot of app are able to forward the screen to the pc, so it shouldn't be that difficult to do...

    thanks for any hint

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately this application, that I didn't notice actually, isn't compatible with my Samsung GT-S7500L (South American version).

    Any other suggestion anyone?

    cheers

I can see this being in the future for either google or one of the big manufacturers.
I dont know of any way just now though

    Thanks for your thoughts.
It looks strange to me. Rearranging screens and setting up the environment is a very boring and lengthy activity, specially on a small screen. I wonder why no one has been developing something tailored to do just this. Am I alone?

I wonder if there is a basic problem with this. I can't imagine any but the fact is that any simple idea has been ALREADY put in practice by an herd of people in this field today... :)

It would probably have to be a root function or a manufacturer would have to bake the feature into their firmware. I doubt if it could work as a 3rd party thing.

Most average people i know dont even bother changing their homescreens in any way lol but if a manufacturer could make it "cool" and easy to do it using a pc, it could maybe catch on

If it is the actual PlayStore that shows it as incompatible it most likely is compatible if your running at least ICS you just need to get it from an alternative source.

    Hi,
There is no ICS available for my phone (a Samsung GT-S7500L). I'm stuck with Ginger Bread. I tried to install Jelly Bean but almost got stuck and lost a lot of functionality. I will try to follow your suggestion and find it somewhere else.
    thanks for that.

I think the reason there's nothing specifically for this is that so many Android users prefer not to go near a computer. I'm not one of them...I am glad to have Android when there's no computer around, but I prefer a desktop computer when available.

I use androidscreencast to operate my phone (also running Ginger Bread) with my keyboard and mouse, with the phone display magnified on my computer screen. That includes (but is certainly not limited to) rearranging my screens. Most configuration, data entry, sorting, and hacking gets done that way. I use it with a USB cable but it might be possible to combine with a wifi ADB app.

There must be other ways to operate your Android using your computer's display, keyboard, and mouse. Again they wouldn't be specifically for arranging your screens but for general usage.

It doesn't help with this question, but as someone who likes using the computer's interface you may also like AirDroid:

It should be easy enough to do as a feature of a 3rd party launcher.

Edit: I don't know if 3rd party launchers require root.

I think this may solve my question. It requires rooting the phone, but I think this is it, thanks! I will give it a try although is clearly not an app you can apply at glance. Yet.

I tend to disagree with the idea that people doesn't like to use android and computers together.

First, I think android users are more cunning than others. Second, many apps for android are just duplications, or really niche apps, but given the huge potential market even 1/1,000,000 of the users may mean a large amount of people. I hope androidscreeencast will become an app soon.

I don't think you need to root to use androidscreencast. I think you just need to go to Settings -> Applications -> Development and enable USB debugging, and maybe also Settings -> Applications and enable Unknown sources.

It can't be an Android app because it doesn't run on Android. It runs on the computer. It does put some sort of small stub code on the phone to connect, I think.
