I see from my data usage that I am receiving data at exactly 12:00 a.m., 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. every single day. I am assuming it is an app up-dates, but how can I determine who it is, and if I really need it. It is eating up my usage. Thanks.

If it's a significant part of your data usage then you may be able to work it out using a generic monitoring app like 3G Watchdog. Maybe if you install it just before one of these download sessions and look at usage just after it then the app responsible will stand out?

I don't know an app that will show data vs time per app (or not with the precision in time you'd need to work out what this is). You could look at the settings of your biggest data users and see whether any of them has an option to control sync/update and try turning them off (or altering the frequency of updates) and see if the pattern changes - if it does, you've found the culprit.
