So I really want to root my phone and flash the FPS kernal. I was going to use Simple Root or Unrevoked3 to do so, but I have the "GangStar" game from gameloft and I don't want to risk having to pay for it again. Gameloft games aren't on the market, but is there any way you can recover them after rooting?

Hrm, i want to say gameloft apps apks are saved onto your sd when you purchased them? This is how it was when I downloaded the free golf game.

Once you're rooted, download astro file manager, or any other root explorer app, find the Game's .apk file and run and install. Then you can download Titanium Backup manager app from market, and backup all your apps+data for future custom rom flashes.
