Alien, I'm sorry if I'm wasting you're time. I'm 100% New to all of this rooting and what not. To be honest, I don't even know what rooting means. All I know is that I heard you could put live wallpapers on an Eris. I went to google and searched 'Droid Eris Live Wallpapers' and found this website,
Live Wallpapers for HTC Droid Eris, with some pretty basic instructions. I downloaded the file they had linked, and I've gotten as far as the Recovery menu, and then selected Recovery from it. I am now stuck on a picture of a Red Triangle with an ! inside of it. Thank you for the help!
Ravistic,
No problem. Yeah, you're going to need to be rooted in order to use live wallpapers on the Eris
You are in the stock recovery mode right now. Just pull your battery, wait a few seconds, re-insert the battery, and power your phone back on and it should reboot like normal.
Rooting is basically gaining super-user access to things on your phone that you don't normally have access / permission to do (i.e., things that VZW / HTC didn't intend for the normal / casual user to try)--for example: live wallpapers!

If you are interested, there's an
All Things Root (Eris) - Android Forums forum with lots of good information, especially in the stickied threads near the top.
FYI, live wallpapers (LWP) are an especially big battery drain on your device. I've read that a lot of folks that have installed them on the Eris, quickly turned them off after the novelty wore off. Its neat to show your friends, but on a day-to-day basis, most folks choose battery life instead.
Good luck!
