If you're not a Reddit user, you won't be able to help. When composing text, you know how one asterisk at the beginning of a character string, and one asterisk at the end, makes that text Italic; two asterisks similarly placed make the string bold. I want a string that looks like: Normal text here, Italics here, Italics and bold here, back to Italics, and back to normal. I did the logical placement of asterisks--and didn't get what I expected. Here's what I did: Normal text here, *Italics here, **Italics and bold here,** back to Italics,* and back to normal. Right now I don't actually remember all of what it did, but it included a visible asterisk--as if I'd escaped it--and it definitely did not do what I wanted. What's the secret?
